The film's journey to the screen began with initial reports surfacing after the monumental success of 'Pathaan' in 2023, making the 'three-year wait' a mix of development, pre-production, and a lengthy, demanding shoot. The project, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, reunites Khan with 'Pathaan' director Siddharth Anand, who took over directing duties from Sujoy Ghosh.
The Father-Daughter Debut
Arguably the biggest draw of 'King' is the on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan, in her theatrical debut. While she made her acting debut in the 2023 streaming film 'The Archies', 'King' marks her official entry into mainstream cinema. Breaking expectations that they might play a father-daughter duo, reports suggest a different dynamic inspired by the classic French film 'Léon: The Professional'. In this action-thriller, SRK is said to portray a highly-skilled, grey-shaded assassin who takes Suhana’s character under his wing as his protégé after her family is killed. Production spanned multiple international locations, including Warsaw, Cape Town, and Gdańsk, hinting at the film's grand scale.
