A New Non-Stop Route
Air India is set to launch a much-anticipated non-stop flight connecting Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) with Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). This marks a significant expansion for the airline in the Canadian
market and makes it the only carrier operating direct flights between the two major cities during the upcoming winter season. For travellers, this eliminates the common hassle of connecting flights through Europe or the Middle East, promising a more efficient and comfortable journey. The new service is a clear indicator of the strengthening ties and high demand for travel between India and Canada.
Understanding the 'Seasonal' Schedule
It is crucial for passengers to note that this is a seasonal service. The flights are scheduled to operate during the winter 2026-2027 season, a period that typically sees a surge in travel for holidays and family visits. The service will commence on October 25, 2026, and is slated to run until March 26, 2027. This seasonal window is designed to cater to peak demand, so travellers planning trips outside these months will need to look at alternative routes with one or more stops. Always double-check dates when booking, as seasonal schedules are precise and have firm end dates.
Flight Frequency and Timings
The new Mumbai-Toronto connection will operate three times a week. According to the schedule, flights will depart from Mumbai on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The departure from Mumbai is set for 4:00 AM local time, arriving in Toronto at 10:00 AM the same day. The return flight from Toronto will depart at 1:30 PM local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving back in Mumbai at 2:10 PM the following day. This schedule provides nearly 2,000 additional seats each week between the two countries, significantly boosting capacity.
The Onboard Experience
The route will be serviced by Air India's Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which features upgraded cabin interiors. Passengers can expect a three-class configuration, including 8 First Class suites, 40 flat-bed Business Class seats, and 280 seats in Economy Class. The enhancement of the fleet is part of Air India's broader strategy to improve its long-haul passenger experience. In addition to the refreshed cabins, travellers will also have access to onboard Wi-Fi connectivity, a significant amenity for a flight of this duration. These upgrades are expected to increase premium seat capacity to Toronto by over 70% this winter.
Booking and Connecting Flights
Tickets for these flights are available for booking across all major channels, including the Air India website, mobile app, and travel agents. This new direct route from Mumbai complements Air India’s existing Canada services, which include ten weekly flights from Delhi to Toronto and seven weekly flights from Delhi to Vancouver. For passengers outside of Mumbai, the airline is promoting seamless connections through its hubs in Mumbai and Delhi from other Indian cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. This network integration makes Toronto more accessible for travellers across western and southern India.
