What Exactly Is the Package Visa?
The Package Visa isn't a new category of visa, but a new way of getting one. It's an integrated system where the tourist visa is bundled into a single travel package that you purchase from an approved travel provider. Instead of applying for a visa separately,
then booking flights, and then arranging hotels, this initiative combines all these crucial steps into one transaction. The pilot program was launched in July 2026 and is currently available in select countries, including India, Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordan, with plans for a wider rollout. The core idea is to eliminate separate applications and consolidate trip planning through a single, authorized point of sale.
The End of Complicated Paperwork
For many travelers, the biggest headache in planning an international trip is the visa process. The Package Visa initiative aims to solve this by making the visa an integral part of the travel booking. When you buy a package from an accredited provider, the electronic visa application is processed automatically. This eliminates the need to visit an embassy or fill out standalone visa applications. The entire process is digital; after purchasing a package, travelers receive their visa, travel insurance, and all documents via email, often within 48 hours. This one-stop approach significantly reduces administrative hurdles, making the journey from planning to arrival smoother and faster.
A Clearer Path for Trip Budgeting
One of the most significant advantages of the Package Visa system is its impact on budgeting. By bundling flights, accommodation, and the visa into one upfront cost, travelers get a much clearer picture of their total expenses. This removes the guesswork and potential for unexpected costs that can arise when booking each component separately. For the pilot program, there is a minimum package price of SR4,000 per adult for the first two days, with an additional SR1,000 for each extra day. The packages must include a round-trip flight and a stay at a licensed hotel rated four stars or higher. While this might not always be the cheapest option, it provides financial predictability and simplifies money management for the trip.
Who Benefits and What's Included
This new system is designed to benefit tourists looking for a streamlined travel experience. The single-entry visa obtained through the package is valid for three months and allows for a stay of up to 88 days. While the package itself does not include arrangements for Umrah, visa holders are permitted to travel anywhere within Saudi Arabia, including the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. Initially, only two providers, Almosafer and Reserval, have been accredited to offer these packages. This controlled rollout ensures that travelers are dealing with highly capable operators that offer digital platforms and 24/7 customer support.
Part of a Bigger Vision
The Package Visa is a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a strategic plan to diversify its economy and boost its tourism sector. The Kingdom has set an ambitious target of attracting 150 million tourists by 2030, and simplifying entry is crucial to achieving this goal. This initiative follows other recent measures like the tourist e-visa, visa-on-arrival options, and the Stopover Transit Visa, all designed to make the country more accessible. By integrating the private sector and leveraging digital technology, Saudi Arabia is not just opening its doors but also fundamentally redesigning the visitor journey to be more connected and user-friendly.
