Gujarat's Monsoon Jewel

Unlike its more famous counterparts in neighbouring Maharashtra, Saputara has retained a quieter, less commercialised charm. Its location in the Dang district, slightly off the main tourist circuit, means it avoids the overwhelming crowds and bumper-to-bumper traffic that plague other hill stations during peak season. The area is known for its well-maintained roads and is not prone to major landslides, making it a relatively safe and accessible monsoon drive. This allows for a more relaxed pace, where the goal isn't just to tick off sights but to genuinely unwind and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Embracing the Monsoon Mist
The rain and fog aren't obstacles here; they're the main attraction. One of the must-visit spots during this season is the Gira Waterfalls, located about 50 km from Saputara, which roars to life with cascading water. The central Saputara Lake offers peaceful boating, with the surrounding hills disappearing into the low-hanging clouds. For panoramic views of the mist-filled valleys, you can take the ropeway or trek to viewpoints like Sunset Point and Sunrise Point. Even if the sun is hidden, the dramatic, foggy vistas offer a unique and photo-worthy experience.
Beyond the Natural Beauty
Saputara also offers a rich cultural experience. The area is home to the Dangi tribe, and visitors can get a glimpse into their lives and traditions at the Saputara Tribal Museum. The Artist Village is another wonderful stop, showcasing and selling authentic Warli paintings and crafts made from bamboo by local artisans. This provides a chance to not only find unique souvenirs but also to support the local community. For a touch of spirituality, the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, situated by the lake, offers a serene and peaceful environment.

The nearest major railway station is Bilimora, about 112 km away, from where you can hire a taxi or take a bus.
