A Major Boost for Regional Connectivity
The Railway Board has approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Surat in Gujarat with Udaipur City in Rajasthan. This move is poised to significantly enhance the rail link between South Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan,
catering to both business travelers and tourists. The new service, operated by Western Railway, will replace the existing Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, extending the high-speed connection directly to Surat, a major commercial and textile hub. This creates a seamless, premium travel option between one of India's key economic centers and one of its most popular tourist destinations.
Route, Timings, and Frequency
The Surat-Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. The train, numbered 26903, is scheduled to depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and arrive in Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey, train number 26904 will leave Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. The entire journey covers a distance of approximately 690 kilometers and is expected to take about seven hours and 30 minutes. The train will make nine commercial stops en route at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar.
The Vande Bharat Onboard Experience
As with other Vande Bharat services, passengers on the Surat-Udaipur route can expect a significant upgrade in comfort and amenities. The trains are fully air-conditioned and come in two classes: AC Chair Car (CC) and Executive Chair Car (EC). The executive class features wider, reclining, and 360-degree rotatable seats. All coaches are equipped with large windows for panoramic views, Wi-Fi-based infotainment systems, mobile charging sockets for every seat, and CCTV surveillance for enhanced safety. Other modern facilities include automatic plug doors, bio-vacuum toilets with sensor-based taps, and a superior onboard catering service.
Boosting Tourism and Business
The introduction of this semi-high-speed train is expected to have a significant positive impact on the economies of both regions. The direct, fast, and comfortable connectivity will likely encourage more tourists to travel from the commercial powerhouse of Surat and other parts of Gujarat to the famed lakes and palaces of Udaipur. For business travelers, the reduced journey time of approximately seven and a half hours presents a highly efficient mode of transport, potentially enabling same-day return trips for meetings and trade. This improved linkage strengthens regional economic ties, supporting hospitality, local businesses, and trade corridors between the two states.
