Thailand: The Land of Smiles
Thailand has long been a favourite for Indian travellers, and it just got even easier to visit. The country has extended its visa-free scheme for Indian passport holders, allowing a stay of up to 30 days. This policy is currently in effect until 10 November
2024, giving you plenty of time to plan a trip. Imagine exploring the bustling markets of Bangkok, relaxing on the pristine beaches of Phuket, or visiting the serene temples of Chiang Mai without the hassle of a pre-arranged visa. Just book your tickets, pack your bags, and get ready to enjoy world-famous Thai hospitality and cuisine. Remember to have your return ticket and proof of accommodation handy for immigration.
Malaysia: Truly Asia
Following Thailand’s lead, Malaysia has also rolled out the welcome mat for Indian tourists. You can now enter Malaysia visa-free for a stay of up to 30 days. This special arrangement is valid until 31 December 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience Malaysia's unique blend of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures. From the iconic Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the historical streets of Malacca to the lush rainforests of Borneo, there's a wealth of experiences waiting. To enter, you’ll need to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days before your arrival. It's a quick digital step for a seamless travel experience.
Vietnam: The E-Visa Champion
While not strictly visa-free in the same way as Thailand or Malaysia, Vietnam has made travel for Indians incredibly simple with its e-visa system. You can apply online for an e-visa that allows for a stay of up to 90 days with multiple entries. The process is straightforward, costs are low, and approval is usually quick. This opens up the entire country for exploration, from the stunning limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay and the vibrant energy of Ho Chi Minh City to the charming ancient town of Hoi An. The e-visa eliminates the need for embassy visits or long waits, making a Vietnamese adventure almost as easy as a visa-free one.
Indonesia: Island Hopping Made Easy
For those dreaming of Bali's beaches and volcanic landscapes, Indonesia offers a convenient visa-on-arrival (VOA) for Indian citizens. While you do have to pay a small fee upon landing (around USD 35), the process is quick and happens at the airport, saving you from any advance paperwork. The VOA is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days. This makes it perfect for exploring not just Bali, but also the Gili Islands, Komodo National Park, or the cultural heartland of Yogyakarta. It’s the next best thing to visa-free travel.
A Note on Sri Lanka and Others
Our beautiful neighbour Sri Lanka recently piloted a visa-free scheme which has since concluded. Currently, Indian citizens need to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) online before visiting. The process is simple and affordable, but it's important to be aware of the change. Policies like these can change frequently, so it’s always a golden rule of travel to check the latest visa requirements from the official embassy or consulate website of your destination country before booking any flights or accommodation. This ensures your journey is as smooth and drama-free as you've planned.
