What is the Free Visa Offer?
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) has launched a tourism promotion specifically for the Indian market. It is not a new permanent visa-free entry rule, but rather a targeted subsidy program. Under this scheme, DCT Abu Dhabi will cover
the complete cost of a UAE entry visa for up to 20,000 Indian tourists. The initiative is designed to make holidaying in the capital more affordable, saving each traveller the standard visa fee of approximately Dh285. This special program is active for a limited period, running from August 1, 2026, to October 31, 2026. Because the offer is capped at 20,000 visas, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Key Conditions for Eligibility
This generous offer comes with a specific set of conditions that travellers must meet to qualify. It is not open to all Indian passport holders for independent travel. To be eligible, you must book a complete holiday package. The mandatory requirements are: First, you must hold an Indian passport and be travelling from India. Second, the booking must be made through a participating travel partner or a recognized online travel agency. Third, your travel itinerary must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. Finally, you must also have a confirmed return flight ticket from India as part of the package. Travellers cannot apply for this free visa on their own; it must be part of a qualifying package booked through the approved channels.
How the Application Process Works
The process for securing the free visa is handled entirely by your travel provider, making it seamless for the tourist. Once you book a qualifying holiday package that meets all the conditions, the participating travel partner takes over. They will process the visa application on your behalf through a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi. The tourism department then covers the cost of the visa directly with the provider. In some cases, your travel agent might use their own partner DMC, and DCT Abu Dhabi will reimburse them for the Dh285 visa cost. The key takeaway for the traveller is simple: you don't need to navigate a separate visa application portal. By booking the right package, the visa cost is automatically waived as part of the promotion.
Understanding Different UAE Visa Types
It’s important not to confuse this limited-time offer with other visa options for the UAE. This promotional tourist visa is distinct from the standard paid transit visas. The UAE offers 48-hour and 96-hour transit visas for passengers with long layovers in Abu Dhabi, but these come with a fee and are typically arranged through airlines like Etihad Airways. Furthermore, the UAE also has a separate visa-on-arrival facility for Indian passport holders who possess a valid visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, or European Union. That option also involves a fee and is governed by different rules. The current "free" visa is a specific, conditional tourism incentive valid only until October 31, 2026, and is tied to a hotel and flight package booking.
