In a move to meet long-standing demand, Central Railway has introduced a new daily express train connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Sawantwadi Road in the heart of the Konkan region. This service, which had its inaugural
run in early September 2026, aims to provide a reliable and direct link for tourists, traders, and residents. Spanning approximately 510 kilometres, the train is designed to significantly improve access to the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, which are popular for their scenic beauty and cultural heritage. The introduction of this daily service is expected to ease the pressure on other Konkan-bound trains and road transport, especially during peak seasons and festivals.

The new express train (numbered 15087/15088) features a comprehensive route with 22 stops, ensuring connectivity to major towns and smaller destinations across the Konkan. Key stops include Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Roha, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, and Kudal, before its final destination at Sawantwadi Road. The schedule is designed for convenience: the train departs CSMT late at night (around 11:55 PM) and arrives at Sawantwadi Road the following afternoon. The return journey leaves Sawantwadi in the evening (around 5:20 PM) and reaches Mumbai early the next morning, making it ideal for weekend travellers looking to maximise their time. The service uses modern LHB rakes, known for their comfort and safety, enhancing the overall journey experience.
