The Visa is Just a Click Away
One of the biggest hurdles for any international trip is the visa process. Lengthy paperwork, interviews, and uncertain waiting times can be a major deterrent. Azerbaijan has largely eliminated this headache for Indian passport holders with its electronic
visa system, known as the ASAN Visa. The process is remarkably straightforward: travellers can apply online, upload the necessary documents, and pay a fee of around $26 USD. Approval is typically granted within three business days, and sometimes much faster, with urgent processing available in as little as three hours. This hassle-free experience is a significant draw for spontaneous, younger travellers who prefer digital solutions over bureaucratic red tape.
Your Rupee Goes a Long Way
Beyond the easy visa, Baku’s affordability is its main attraction. Compared to popular destinations in Europe or the Middle East, Azerbaijan offers incredible value for money. Return flights from major Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai can be found for between ₹25,000 and ₹35,000, especially when booked in advance. Accommodation is equally budget-friendly, with hostels and guesthouses available for as low as ₹1,500 per night and comfortable mid-range hotels costing between ₹3,000 and ₹5,000. Daily expenses are also manageable. Delicious local meals can be enjoyed for under ₹800 a day, and public transport is highly economical, allowing travellers to explore the city extensively without a hefty price tag. A week-long trip can comfortably be managed within a budget of ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 per person.
A City of Contrasts
Baku is a city where East meets West and history meets the future. Its appeal lies in this fascinating contrast. A short walk separates the futuristic Flame Towers, which illuminate the skyline at night, from the ancient, winding alleys of the UNESCO-listed Old City (Icherisheher). This walled fortress contains centuries of history, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower. Young travellers are drawn to this unique blend, which offers a rich cultural experience alongside modern comforts. The city feels both ancient and cutting-edge, providing a dynamic backdrop for exploration and, of course, countless photo opportunities. Strolling along the Caspian Sea on the Baku Boulevard offers yet another perspective of this diverse urban landscape.
More Than Just a Stopover
The rising interest is reflected in the numbers. While geopolitical events caused a dip in 2025, the overall trend has shown a massive increase in Indian tourists visiting Azerbaijan over the past decade. The country is actively promoting itself as a welcoming destination for Indians, highlighting its cultural links, safety, and Bollywood connections, with several Indian films being shot there. With direct flights from major Indian hubs taking only about four to five hours, it's a convenient short-haul international destination. This combination of accessibility, affordability, and unique attractions has firmly placed Baku on the travel map for a new generation of Indian explorers.
