A Call for India's Finest Engineers
The ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB) has released a notification for the recruitment of Scientist/Engineer 'SC' positions. A total of 93 vacancies have been announced across various disciplines, presenting a golden opportunity for engineers to contribute
to India's prestigious space programme. These roles are spread across different ISRO centres, including the Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) and U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), among others. The application window for these sought-after positions is set to close on August 17, 2026, making it a time-sensitive opportunity for aspiring candidates.
Available Positions and Disciplines
The current recruitment drive is looking for talent in several key engineering fields. The bulk of the vacancies are for Scientist/Engineer 'SC' roles in Electronics (35 posts), Mechanical (26 posts), Computer Science (13 posts), and Civil engineering (10 posts). Additional openings are available in Electrical, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, and Architecture. These roles are classified as Group 'A' posts, placing the selected candidates in Level 10 of the pay matrix, which comes with a competitive starting basic pay of ₹56,100 per month plus allowances.
Eligibility: Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for these posts, candidates must possess a B.E./B.Tech degree or an equivalent qualification in the relevant engineering discipline. A mandatory requirement is securing a minimum aggregate of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. Crucially, applicants must also have a valid GATE score. For this cycle, ISRO is accepting GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 scores, depending on the specific notification details. Candidates are advised to carefully check the required GATE paper code corresponding to their engineering discipline before applying.
The Selection Process Explained
Unlike some other government recruitments, this selection process for Scientist/Engineer 'SC' does not involve a separate written examination for all applicants. Instead, the initial shortlisting of candidates will be done based on their valid GATE scores. Those who are shortlisted will then be called for a personal interview. The final selection will be based on a merit list prepared with 50% weightage given to the candidate's GATE score and 50% to their performance in the interview. The interview will assess technical knowledge, communication skills, and general awareness related to the specialisation.
How to Submit Your Application
The application process is entirely online. Interested and eligible candidates must visit the official ISRO website, isro.gov.in, and navigate to the careers section to find the application link. The online registration requires candidates to provide personal details, educational qualifications, and their valid GATE score. It is essential to fill in all details accurately and upload the necessary documents as specified. The deadline for online registration is August 17, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to complete their applications well before the closing date to avoid any last-minute issues.
More Than Just a Job
A career at ISRO is more than just employment; it is an opportunity to be part of a mission of national importance. Working as a scientist or engineer at the organisation means contributing to groundbreaking projects that have captured the world's imagination, from lunar missions like Chandrayaan to the human spaceflight program (Gaganyaan). It offers a chance to work with cutting-edge technology and a community of brilliant professionals. Furthermore, ISRO provides excellent career progression through its Merit Promotion Scheme, allowing meritorious individuals to rise through the ranks based on performance, independent of vacancy availability.
