A Boost for Regional Tourism
Southern Railway has launched an exciting trial run of a Vistadome coach on the existing Madurai-Guruvayur Express, a move celebrated by tourists and rail enthusiasts. This marks the first time a train operating through Kerala will feature this specialised
carriage, designed to offer an immersive travel experience. Unlike a dedicated tourist train, this service attaches a single, premium Vistadome coach to a regular express train, making the unique experience more accessible. The initiative is expected to significantly boost tourism by showcasing the region's natural splendour in a comfortable and modern setting.
The Vistadome Experience
The main attraction is the Vistadome coach itself. These modern, European-style carriages are engineered for sightseeing. They feature oversized glass windows, a transparent glass-panelled roof, and an observation lounge for an unparalleled view of the surrounding landscapes. A key feature is the set of 180-degree rotatable seats, allowing passengers to orient themselves towards the direction of the best views without leaving their seats. The coach is also equipped with Wi-Fi-based passenger information systems and other modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and luxurious journey.
The Scenic Route
The journey is designed to highlight the stunning natural beauty between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The train travels through the picturesque Sengottai-Punalur ghat section, a route famous for its winding tracks, lush greenery, and mountain scenery. This section includes the historic Aryankavu Pass, offering passengers a front-row seat to the dense forests and rolling hills of the Western Ghats. The route has long been considered one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Southern India, and the addition of the Vistadome coach elevates it to a must-do travel experience.
