Understanding the Free Visa Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a new initiative aimed at making the emirate more accessible to Indian tourists. From August 1 to October 31, 2026, the authority will cover the full cost of a UAE entry visa
for eligible travellers. This saves each visitor approximately Dh285 ($77). However, this is not a universal visa-waiver. The benefit is tied to specific holiday packages and is not something travellers can apply for independently. It's a pilot programme with an initial cap of 20,000 visas, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligibility: Who Can Claim the Benefit?
To qualify for the free visa, travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. The offer is exclusively for Indian passport holders whose journey originates in India. The core requirement is the booking of a specific type of holiday package through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency (OTA). The package must include a return flight from India and a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. Simply booking a flight and hotel separately will not qualify; the free visa is processed as part of an eligible package deal booked through designated partners.
How the Process Works
Travellers will not find a government portal to apply for this free visa. Instead, the cost is covered behind the scenes. When you book a qualifying package with a participating travel agent, they handle the visa process through channels established by DCT Abu Dhabi. The tourism department either pays the cost directly to an appointed Destination Management Company (DMC) or reimburses the travel partner Dh285 for each visa issued. For the tourist, the end result is the same: the visa fee is waived from their total package cost. The key is to confirm with your travel agent that they are part of this specific programme and that your booking meets all the necessary conditions.
Why This is a Limited-Time Opportunity
This initiative is a pilot programme with a fixed duration and a cap. It runs until October 31, 2026, or until all 20,000 subsidised visas have been claimed—whichever comes first. Given the high demand for travel from India to the UAE, this quota could be reached before the October deadline. Therefore, prospective travellers are advised to act promptly and book their trips early in the programme window to avoid disappointment. It’s a strategic move by Abu Dhabi to encourage longer stays, inviting visitors to explore the emirate's attractions beyond just a short stopover.
Making the Most of Your Trip
With the visa cost covered, visitors have more to spend on experiences. A three-day itinerary allows ample time to explore Abu Dhabi's diverse offerings. You could spend a day exploring the cultural landmarks on Saadiyat Island, such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, or experiencing the thrilling theme parks on Yas Island. Other must-see attractions include the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the serene mangrove parks, and the stunning waterfront promenades. This offer provides a great incentive to plan a comprehensive trip and discover the unique blend of culture, entertainment, and hospitality that Abu Dhabi provides.
