A Game-Changer for Regional Travel
The introduction of the Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express marks a significant upgrade for travel between South Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan. The Railway Board approved the service in late August 2026, creating Surat's first originating Vande Bharat train.
This move is set to benefit tourists, business travellers, and families by providing a faster, more comfortable, and direct rail link. The new route effectively extends the previous Udaipur-Asarva service all the way to Surat, discontinuing the shorter route in favour of this enhanced connection. The service is expected to be particularly popular during festive seasons like Navratri and for those planning holidays or attending destination weddings in Udaipur.
Route and Official Stations
The train, numbered 26903 from Surat and 26904 from Udaipur, will cover a distance of approximately 690 kilometres. During its journey, the Vande Bharat Express will have nine official commercial stops, ensuring connectivity to several key towns and cities along the way. The designated stations between Surat and Udaipur City are: Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar. This extensive list of halts makes the service accessible to a wide range of passengers across both states.
Timings and Journey Schedule
The service is scheduled to run six days a week, with no operations on Tuesdays. The morning service, train number 26903, will depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and is scheduled to arrive at Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey, train number 26904 will depart from Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM the same evening. The total journey time is estimated to be around 7 hours and 30 minutes, offering a significant time saving compared to the 8-9 hours it typically takes by road.
Onboard Experience and Features
Passengers on the Surat-Udaipur route can expect the premium experience that the Vande Bharat trains are known for. The train is an eight-coach rake, featuring both AC Chair Car and AC Executive Chair Car classes. Onboard amenities include airline-style reclining and rotatable seats, large windows for observation, Wi-Fi for infotainment, and charging points for every passenger. The train is also equipped with advanced safety features like the indigenous Kavach anti-collision system. Catering services are provided onboard, ensuring a comfortable and convenient journey from start to finish.
Booking and Practical Information
The launch of this service is anticipated before the Shardiya Navratri festival in October 2026 to cater to the festive travel rush. Bookings for train numbers 26903 and 26904 will be made available through the official IRCTC website and mobile application. Fares are expected to be in line with other Vande Bharat services, with dynamic pricing potentially influencing the final cost. As the new service replaces the existing Udaipur-Asarva Vande Bharat, passengers who previously used that route will now have a direct and extended connection to Vadodara, Bharuch, and Surat.
