A Faster, Cleaner Booking Portal
On July 15, 2026, IRCTC launched a revamped version of its ticket-booking website, designed to tackle some of the most common frustrations for passengers. The new portal promises a massive boost in performance, with the capacity to handle up to 1.5 lakh
bookings per minute. This upgrade is aimed squarely at reducing slowdowns and booking failures, especially during the chaotic Tatkal window. The user interface has also been redesigned to be cleaner and more intuitive. This means fewer distracting pop-ups and a significant reduction in CAPTCHA interruptions, allowing users to move through the booking process with greater speed and less hassle. The goal is a smoother, more reliable experience, even on slower networks.
Smarter Search and Selection
Finding the right train and class has been streamlined. A major new feature allows users to see seat availability across all classes—Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, etc.—on a single screen. This eliminates the tedious process of checking each class individually, saving time and helping travelers make quicker comparisons. Additionally, a new fare calendar lets you easily compare ticket prices across different dates, a useful tool for anyone with flexible travel plans looking for a cheaper fare. The platform also introduces the ability to specify seat preferences during booking, giving passengers more control over their journey.
The Rise of Conversational Booking
For those who prefer a more interactive experience, IRCTC's AI-powered chatbot, AskDISHA 2.0, has been significantly upgraded. Developed with CoRover.ai, this virtual assistant can now handle the entire booking process through simple chat or voice commands. It understands queries in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, making it highly accessible. A key benefit is that it doesn't require users to remember their password; instead, it uses a secure OTP sent to the registered mobile number for authentication. Beyond booking, AskDISHA 2.0 can also manage cancellations, check refund status, track your PNR, and even help you order food on the train.
More Accurate Waitlist Predictions
The anxiety of a waitlisted ticket is a familiar feeling for millions. To address this, Indian Railways is upgrading its Passenger Reservation System with a powerful AI model to improve confirmation predictions. While the old system had an accuracy of around 53%, the new AI-driven tool reportedly boosts this to 94%. By analyzing historical booking data, cancellation patterns, and route demand, the system provides a much clearer percentage chance of your ticket getting confirmed at the time of booking. This allows passengers to make more informed decisions, reducing the uncertainty that comes with last-minute travel planning.
Unified Services for All
The revamped platform also aims to be more inclusive. The website will now support multiple Indian languages, making it more accessible to a wider audience. Furthermore, services for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), students, and patients, which previously required separate processes for concessions, are being integrated into the main platform. The IRCTC Rail Connect app has also been updated with features like a simplified biometric login and a unified payments page for a smoother checkout experience, ensuring that the improvements are available both on the web and on mobile.
