Know the Opening Windows
Amrit Udyan is not open year-round. It typically welcomes the public during two main phases: the Udyan Utsav in spring (around February to March) and the Summer Annuals edition during the monsoon (around August to September). For example, the 2026 Summer Annuals edition is open from
August 16 to September 15. The main Udyan Utsav for 2026 was held from early February to March 31. Always check the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website for the exact dates before planning your trip, as they can vary each year. The gardens remain closed on Mondays for maintenance.
Booking Your Slot: A Must-Do
Entry to Amrit Udyan is free, but pre-booking your time slot online is mandatory. Walk-in facilities are generally not available for the summer opening, though they have been offered via self-service kiosks in past spring seasons. To avoid disappointment, book your slot through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan visitor portal. Bookings can be made for hourly slots, typically from 10 am to 5 pm, which is the last entry time. A single booking can accommodate up to six people. Remember that slots for a particular day close at 10 am the day before, so it's wise to book in advance, especially for weekends.
Choosing the Best Day and Time
To avoid large crowds and enjoy pleasant weather, a weekday visit is highly recommended. Early morning slots, right after the 10 am opening, are often the best for a tranquil experience and softer light for photos. The last entry is at 5 pm, and the gardens close by 6 pm, so plan for at least two to three hours to explore the sprawling 15-acre estate comfortably. During the visiting season, there are also special days reserved for specific groups like teachers, sportspersons, and senior citizens, so check the schedule if this applies to you.
What to Carry (and What to Leave Behind)
The security at Rashtrapati Bhavan is strict. You are allowed to carry your mobile phone, wallet, a small purse or handbag, umbrellas, and water bottles. For those with infants, a small bag with a milk bottle is also permitted. However, items like professional cameras, video cameras, backpacks, cigarettes, and any kind of food or eatables are strictly prohibited. It is essential to carry a government-issued photo ID along with your digital visitor pass on your mobile phone.
Getting There and Getting In
Entry and exit for all visitors are from Gate No. 35 of the President's Estate, located on North Avenue Road. The most convenient way to reach is by Delhi Metro. The nearest station is Central Secretariat (on the Yellow and Violet lines), which is about 2 km away. A free shuttle bus service is available every 30 minutes from Gate No. 4 of the Central Secretariat station to Gate No. 35, running from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. This is the most hassle-free option to avoid parking issues. If you are taking a bus, the RML Hospital bus stop is less than a kilometre away.
Inside the Gardens: Attractions and Facilities
Once inside, you'll discover various themed areas like the Bonsai Garden, Herbal Garden, Circular Garden, and the Bal Vatika for children. The Summer Annuals edition often features a new attraction, like the 'Babbling Brook', a landscaped water feature. Amenities such as drinking water stalls, restrooms, and first-aid posts are available along the designated route. While you can't bring your own food, there is a food court where you can purchase snacks and beverages.
