The answer lies in the 'Live Station' or 'Trains Between Stations' feature, a core function of the NTES, now seamlessly integrated into the RailOne app. This tool allows passengers to see a real-time list of all trains scheduled to depart from one station and arrive at another within the next two, four, or eight hours. It isn't just for long-distance express trains; the system displays passenger trains, MEMUs, and DEMUs that form the backbone of intercity travel. Instead of filtering by seat availability, which is irrelevant for unreserved coaches, commuters can simply view a chronological list of upcoming services, their scheduled departure times, and their current running status. This eliminates the need to ask at enquiry counters or rely on static timetables, providing accurate, on-the-go information.

Once you've found your train, the next hurdle is the ticket. The UTS on Mobile app revolutionised this process, and its features are now a cornerstone of the new RailOne app. Passengers can book unreserved journey tickets directly on their smartphones, completely bypassing the ticket counters. The system generates a paperless QR code-based ticket on the phone, which serves as a valid travel authority. For regular commuters, the app is even more valuable. It allows for the renewal of monthly or quarterly season tickets without a single visit to the station. The app also facilitates the purchase of platform tickets, saving time for those seeing off or receiving friends and family. This shift to digital ticketing not only offers immense convenience but also promotes a contactless and environmentally friendly way to travel.
Beyond Timings: A Complete Commuter Toolkit
Modern railway apps offer far more than just timings and tickets. The 'Spot Your Train' feature gives a real-time GPS location of the train on a map, including any delays and its expected arrival time at your station. This removes the anxiety of not knowing if your train is on time. Furthermore, many apps now provide crucial platform number information, often before it is announced at the station, allowing you to position yourself correctly and avoid a last-minute rush. Another helpful tool is the coach position finder, which shows the layout of the train and helps you find where the unreserved general compartments are likely to be when the train arrives.
