FSSAI's Multi-Pronged Action
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken significant action against three separate companies for serious violations of food safety regulations. The enforcement drive includes a product recall due to unsafe contaminants, the suspension
of a manufacturing license for hygiene failures, and a ban on a health supplement for making misleading claims. This move underscores the regulator's commitment to protecting consumers from unsafe and misbranded food products. The actions target a range of issues, from pesticide residues in everyday snacks to unhygienic practices in pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing units.
Product Recall: Wonderland Raisins
The most urgent consumer-facing action is the recall of 'Wonderland Raisins' manufactured by M/s Sun Organic Industries Pvt Ltd. Regulatory samples collected and tested by the FSSAI were found to contain pesticide residues exceeding the maximum permissible limits set by Indian food laws. Both the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad and the Referral Laboratory at NIFTEM-K confirmed the samples were "unsafe" for consumption under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI has ordered the company to recall the entire affected batch from the market immediately. While the specific batch number has not been publicly detailed in the initial notice, the recall applies to the entire batch from which the failed samples were drawn. Consumers who have purchased this product are advised to check for any recall-specific information from the retailer or the company.
Health Supplements Under Scrutiny
The FSSAI also issued a prohibition order against M/s Vatave Health Care, banning the manufacture and sale of its Folineuro Syrup (Folinic Acid Syrup). The regulator stated that the product was being marketed with misleading claims related to brain function. Furthermore, its trade name was deemed non-compliant with the regulations governing health supplements and nutraceuticals. In a similar move against misleading branding, the FSSAI also prohibited the sale of 'Neuherbs TRUE VITAMIN' from Global Healthfit Retail India, stating the name "TRUE VITAMIN" could mislead consumers. This is part of a broader crackdown on products making unsubstantiated health claims.
Manufacturing Licence Suspended
In a separate but equally serious action, the FSSAI suspended the manufacturing licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals' Nutraceutical unit. An inspection of the facility revealed "major and critical non-compliances." According to the food regulator, the unit had significant failures in its quality management systems and deficiencies in its manufacturing and hygiene practices, prompting the immediate suspension to prevent potentially unsafe products from reaching the market.
