Starting from the plains of New Jalpaiguri, the train ascends to Darjeeling, India's famous hill station. The 88-kilometre route features ingenious loops and zig-zags, including the famous Batasia Loop, which offers a 360-degree view of Darjeeling town with the majestic Kanchenjunga peak in the background. This is one of India's most thrilling and unique train journeys. The route connects mainland India to the island of Rameswaram via the Pamban Bridge, the country's first-ever sea bridge which opened in 1914. The train crosses over 950 bridges and through two tunnels as it meanders through lush farmland, tea gardens, and charming villages, offering an intimate glimpse into life in rural Himachal Pradesh.
