The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program that covers the cost of UAE entry visas for Indian tourists. This initiative runs for a limited time, from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is capped at 20,000
visas. It’s more accurately described as a visa cost waiver rather than visa-free travel. You still receive an official visa, but Abu Dhabi covers the fee—typically around AED 285—when you book a qualifying holiday package.
The All-Important Conditions for Eligibility
To qualify for the visa waiver, Indian travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. Critically, the offer cannot be claimed independently by an individual. It is tied directly to package deals booked through specific travel partners. The core requirements for your booking to be eligible are: holding a valid Indian passport and travelling from India; booking a minimum of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel; and including a return flight to India in the same package. Bookings for hotels in other emirates, like Dubai, do not qualify, even if you plan a day trip to Abu Dhabi.
How to Apply and Secure the Waiver
The process is handled entirely by the travel company, not the individual traveller. The first step is to find a participating travel agent or online travel agency (OTA). Before finalising any payment, you should explicitly ask the agent if your intended package qualifies for the DCT Abu Dhabi complimentary visa program. Once you book a qualifying package, the travel partner will handle the visa application process on your behalf. They will either process it through a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, where the cost is covered directly, or get a reimbursement of AED 285 per visa.
Is This Different from Other UAE Visas?
Yes, this promotional offer is distinct from other visa options available to Indian citizens. It should not be confused with the standard UAE visa on arrival. As of recent changes in 2026, the visa-on-arrival facility for Indian passport holders using a UK visa or residence permit has been discontinued. However, Indians with valid US visas or Green Cards may still be eligible for a 14-day visa on arrival. Additionally, the UAE continues to offer a five-year multiple-entry tourist visa for frequent visitors, which requires applicants to show a bank balance of at least USD 4,000. For short stopovers, airlines like Etihad also facilitate 48-hour or 96-hour transit visas, which have their own separate requirements and costs.
