Understanding the Monsoon Opening
Amrit Udyan is welcoming visitors for its 'Summer Annuals Edition 2026' from August 16 to September 15. This special opening, also known as Udyan Utsav-II, showcases a variety of indigenous and local flowering plants that thrive during the monsoon. Expect
to see vibrant displays of Gul-Mehndi, Aparajita, and other seasonal blooms that bring a unique character to the 15-acre estate. The gardens are open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, with the last entry at 5 pm, but remember that they remain closed every Monday for regular maintenance.
Booking Your Visit is a Must
Entry to Amrit Udyan is free of charge, but planning ahead is essential. All visitors are required to book their entry slots online in advance through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. It's crucial to note that there is no facility for on-the-spot or walk-in booking. Booking for any given day closes at 10 am on the preceding day, so be sure to reserve your spot early to avoid disappointment. When you book, you will receive a digital pass, which you should carry on your mobile phone along with a valid photo ID.
Dressing for a Rainy Day
Comfort is key when navigating the sprawling gardens, especially in wet weather. Opt for comfortable walking shoes with a good grip, as pathways can become slippery. Lightweight, quick-dry clothing is advisable. While the monsoon weather can be humid, a light waterproof jacket might be more practical than a large umbrella, allowing you to keep your hands free. However, umbrellas are permitted inside if you prefer. Facilities like rain shelters are available along the designated route for visitors to take cover during a heavy downpour.
What to Carry (and What to Leave Behind)
The security guidelines at Rashtrapati Bhavan are quite strict. Visitors are allowed to carry mobile phones, wallets, small purses or handbags, and umbrellas. If you are visiting with an infant, a milk bottle and a small bag for essentials are also permitted. However, items like backpacks, cameras, video cameras, eatables, cigarettes, and any kind of arms or ammunition are strictly prohibited. It’s best to travel light to ensure a smooth and quick entry process at Gate No. 35 on North Avenue Road, which serves as both the entry and exit point.
Getting There and Around
Reaching Amrit Udyan is convenient, especially via public transport. The nearest metro station is Central Secretariat. To make the journey seamless, a complimentary shuttle bus service runs every 30 minutes from the metro station to the garden's entrance at Gate No. 35. This service operates from 9:30 am to 6 pm. Once inside, follow the designated visitor route, which will guide you through the main attractions, including the Bonsai Garden, Circular Garden, and the new Babbling Brook Garden. Several facilities, including drinking water stalls, restrooms, and first-aid posts, are available for convenience.
Embracing the Monsoon Splendor
A rainy day offers a unique perspective of Amrit Udyan. The gardens, washed clean by the rain, appear exceptionally lush and green. The sound of rain complements the new Babbling Brook feature, creating a tranquil atmosphere. This season's focus on indigenous Indian flowers like Balsam, Aparajita, and Varsha Phool means you'll see a display specifically adapted to the monsoon climate. The crowd is often thinner on overcast days, allowing for a more peaceful and leisurely stroll through the historic landscape. Don't let the drizzle deter you; with the right preparation, you can fully enjoy one of Delhi’s most beautiful seasonal experiences.
