Responding to increased passenger demand, Western Railway has recently extended the services of a weekly special train between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad. Train No. 09087 will depart from Mumbai Central on Wednesdays, and its return service, Train No. 09088, will leave Ahmedabad on Thursdays. These services have been extended until late November 2026, providing travellers with an additional option, particularly useful for those planning their trips in advance. Operating as a 'Special Train on Special Fare', this service adds valuable capacity to a busy route and gives passengers more flexibility when booking their travel between the two major cities.
The Future is Faster: The Bullet Train
Looming on the horizon is a project that will fundamentally transform travel on this route: the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, popularly known as the bullet train. With construction progressing, this service is targeted for launch around 2027 or 2028. Once operational, the bullet train will slash the journey time to approximately two to three hours, travelling at speeds of up to 320 km/h. The project involves building 12 new stations and even includes India's first undersea rail tunnel beneath Thane Creek. While still a few years away, the bullet train promises a revolutionary leap in speed and connectivity, marking the next chapter in the story of this vital travel corridor.
