An Overall Positive Outlook
Good news for graduates: India's hiring sentiment is the strongest in the world, and the outlook for freshers remains positive for the latter half of 2026. Reports indicate that roughly three in four employers plan to hire fresh talent. This momentum
is driven by strong domestic demand, digital transformation across industries, and government initiatives like 'Make in India'. While the overall trend is upward, the growth isn't uniform. The market is becoming more selective, favouring candidates with specific, in-demand skills over just a degree. This means that while opportunities are plentiful, they are concentrated in specific, rapidly evolving fields.
E-commerce, Retail, and Tech Startups
The leaders of the pack in fresher hiring are the e-commerce, retail, and technology startup sectors. A staggering 93% of employers in these domains have expressed their intent to hire freshers. This surge is fuelled by expanding consumer markets and the continuous adoption of digital platforms. For freshers, this translates into a wide array of roles, from programmatic advertising associates to inventory and dispatch executives. Startups, in particular, are betting on freshers as cost-effective and trainable talent, offering rapid growth opportunities, though sometimes with less predictability than established corporations.
Manufacturing and Core Infrastructure
The manufacturing sector is experiencing a significant hiring boom, with nearly 89% of companies planning to recruit freshers. This isn't just about factory floor jobs; the government's push for infrastructure development in areas like roads, railways, and power has created a massive demand for new talent. The CORE sector, which includes steel, cement, and energy, accounts for a substantial portion of all hiring intentions. Roles are available for engineering graduates as well as those with skills in logistics and supply chain management. This sector offers a chance to be part of foundational projects that are shaping the country's economic future.
The Evolving IT Services Sector
While the Information Technology sector's hiring intent has seen a slight dip compared to previous years, it remains a powerhouse for fresher employment. The narrative, however, has changed from bulk hiring of generic coders to a targeted search for specialised skills. Companies like TCS and Infosys are still planning to recruit tens of thousands of freshers. The focus is now squarely on emerging technologies. Fresh graduates with certified skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud computing, and cybersecurity are in high demand. Roles like AI Application Developer and Junior Semiconductor Design Engineer are among the most sought-after positions for entry-level talent.
Healthcare, Pharma, and BFSI
The Healthcare and Pharmaceutical sectors continue to be a source of steady employment, driven by the expansion of health-tech, telemedicine, and increased insurance coverage. You don't necessarily need a medical degree; roles in hospital administration, pharma sales, and clinical data management are actively open to freshers from various backgrounds. Similarly, the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector remains a reliable source of jobs. The rapid digitisation of finance has created new fintech roles alongside traditional positions like financial analysts and relationship managers. These sectors value analytical thinking and offer structured career growth paths.
