A Digital Welcome for Every Tourist
Andhra Pradesh is set to become India's first AI-powered tourism state, a move designed to break down common travel barriers like language and lack of local knowledge. The state has signed a three-year agreement with travel-tech company Explurger to deploy
its conversational AI platform, named NiVU AI, across more than 100 tourist destinations. This initiative is a core part of the state's ambitious 'Swarna Andhra Vision-2047', which aims to leverage technology for widespread public and economic benefit. The goal is simple: make exploring the state's rich tapestry of temples, beaches, forts, and natural heritage more interactive, accessible, and deeply informative for everyone.
How It Works: No App Required
The beauty of the NiVU AI system lies in its simplicity. Unlike traditional audio guides or clunky apps, visitors won't need to download anything. Instead, they can simply scan a QR code placed at a tourist site with their smartphone. This instantly launches a web-based chat interface, connecting them to the AI guide. The platform works through both voice and text, allowing tourists to ask questions and receive detailed information about the site's history, cultural significance, and architectural details. Following a successful pilot at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temples in Mangalagiri, the platform is now being rolled out in phases, starting with 30 major sites in the first year.
Beyond Translation: Speaking Your Language
One of the most significant features of NiVU AI is its powerful multilingual capability. The platform supports over 130 Indian and international languages, effectively eliminating the language barrier that can often be a hurdle for both domestic and international tourists. This means a visitor from Japan, France, or another part of India can receive information and ask questions in their preferred language. This goes far beyond basic translation. The AI is designed to provide culturally relevant context, explaining local traditions, rituals, and stories that bring a destination to life. The service is completely free for all tourists, making it a remarkably inclusive tool.
Your Personalised Travel Companion
The AI doesn't just recite historical facts. It acts as a dynamic, context-aware guide. For example, it can recommend other nearby attractions based on a visitor's location and expressed interests, helping to create a more seamless and personalised itinerary on the fly. This level of interaction aims to encourage visitors to explore more deeply and spend more time discovering the hidden gems of Andhra Pradesh. For the tourism department, the platform offers another advantage: it will generate valuable, real-time insights into visitor behaviour, such as popular queries and language preferences. This data can then be used to further improve tourism infrastructure and services across the state.
