An All-Inclusive Japanese Adventure
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a comprehensive tour package named 'Japan Ex Delhi'. This 9-night, 10-day escorted tour is designed to be a hassle-free experience, bundling most major travel expenses into one price.
The package includes return economy class airfare from Delhi, accommodation in four-star hotels, all main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), Japan tourist visa charges, and travel insurance for passengers under 70. With an English-speaking guide and travel in air-conditioned coaches, it's particularly suited for those who prefer a structured itinerary without the stress of independent planning. The inaugural tour is scheduled to depart from Delhi on September 6, 2026.
From Tokyo's Towers to Hiroshima's History
The itinerary is packed with iconic sights, offering a grand tour of Japan's cultural and modern marvels. The journey begins in Tokyo, with visits to the historic Asakusa Temple, the bustling Nakamise Shopping Street, Ueno Park, and the futuristic island of Odaiba, which hosts the immersive TeamLab Planets digital art museum. A major highlight is the trip to Mount Fuji's 5th Station, weather permitting, for breathtaking views of the famous peak. The tour also includes a cruise on Lake Ashi via the Hakone Pirate Ship and a ride on the Hakone Ropeway. A much-anticipated experience is the journey on the Shinkansen, Japan’s legendary bullet train. The cultural exploration continues in Kyoto with visits to the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple and the mesmerizing Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. The tour also covers Nara's famous Deer Park and the historic city of Hiroshima, including the Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima Island.
Understanding the Cost
The package price starts at ₹3,45,999 per person for triple-sharing accommodation. For those opting for a twin-sharing room, the cost is ₹3,49,999 per person. For solo travellers, the single-occupancy package is priced at ₹4,73,999. There are also rates for children travelling with families; a child aged 5-11 with an extra bed costs ₹2,92,499, while the price without a bed is ₹2,63,999. This pricing model consolidates most of the major costs associated with a trip to Japan, offering clarity and convenience for travellers.
What's Not Included in the Package
While the package is largely all-inclusive, travellers should budget for a few additional expenses. The cost does not cover any urgent visa charges or potential increases in airfare, airport taxes, or fuel surcharges that may occur after booking. Meals are provided as per a set menu, so any à la carte orders or room service will be charged separately. Furthermore, the cost of any excursions or entrance fees not explicitly mentioned in the detailed itinerary is excluded. It is also customary to budget for tips for local guides, drivers, and waiters, as these are not part of the package price.
Booking and Essential Information
Booking for this tour can be done through the official IRCTC Tourism website, its mobile app, or by visiting regional and zonal offices. Given the international nature of the trip, certain documentation is mandatory. All passengers must have a passport with a minimum of six months' validity from the date of return to India. A PAN card is also required for booking. The package simplifies the visa process by including the tourist visa charges and handling the application, which is a significant convenience for many travellers. However, prospective travellers should ensure all their documents, including passport photos meeting specific requirements, are in order well in advance.
