In the U.S., states are also stepping in, with dozens of bills introduced to address everything from student data privacy to requiring human oversight for AI-driven decisions in education. Recent guidance from some universities now encourages professors to explicitly state their AI policy in their syllabus, offering model language for different levels of permission.
Redefining Assignments and Skills
The rise of generative AI is forcing a fundamental rethink of how students are evaluated. If a tool can write a passable essay in seconds, the traditional take-home essay loses much of its value as a measure of a student's knowledge.
