There are cheaper options, like the excellent Vayu Vajra bus service for around ₹300, but it takes longer. So, if you find a flight to Bengaluru that's ₹1000 cheaper than another, but it lands at a time when your only viable option is a ₹1200 cab, you haven't actually saved any money. Your true landing cost is: (Flight Fare + Baggage Fees) + (Taxi/Bus Fare). Only by comparing this total figure can you see which flight is the real bargain.
Beyond Rupees: The Cost of Time and Stress
The calculation isn't just about money; it's also about your time and energy. A remote airport doesn't just cost more to get to and from; it also takes more time. That 40 km journey from Bengaluru's airport can take anywhere from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the city's notorious traffic. Arriving late at night to a distant airport with limited public transport options can also add a layer of stress and uncertainty to your trip. Is saving a few hundred rupees on the flight worth the hassle of a long, expensive, and tiring transfer after you land? For most travellers, the answer is no. The convenience of a well-connected, central airport often justifies a slightly higher ticket price.

Becoming a savvy traveller doesn't mean abandoning the hunt for deals. It means widening your definition of what a 'deal' is. Before you click 'buy' on that next cheap flight, take these steps. First, use Google Maps to check the distance between the airport and your hotel or primary destination. Second, open a ride-hailing app and get a fare estimate for that route at the time you're likely to be travelling. Third, search for public transport options like airport buses or metro lines and check their timings and cost. Factoring in an extra ₹1500-₹2000 for round-trip airport transfers can completely change the maths of your flight comparison. By investing five extra minutes in this research, you ensure your budget stays intact and your trip starts on a smooth, stress-free note.
