The Visa Waiver Offer Explained
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This is not a blanket visa-free entry policy for all Indian citizens but a targeted
tourism promotion. Under the scheme, the visa is still processed and issued, but the cost, which can be around AED 285, is paid directly by DCT Abu Dhabi. The initiative runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially capped at 20,000 visas, meaning it operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the quota is met.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Visa?
To qualify for this cost-saving deal, Indian travellers must meet a specific set of criteria. The offer is only valid for Indian passport holders whose journey originates in India. The core requirement is booking a complete holiday package through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency (OTA). This package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight ticket from India. Travellers cannot apply for the visa waiver independently; it must be part of the qualifying package booked through one of the designated partners.
How to Claim Your Complimentary Visa
The process is designed to be seamless for the traveller, with the heavy lifting handled by the travel agencies. The first step is to book a qualifying holiday package with one of the 11 participating travel partners, which include well-known names like MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook, SOTC, and Akbar Holidays. When you book your package that includes at least three hotel nights and return flights, the travel partner will handle the visa application on your behalf. They will process the visa through a DCT-appointed Destination Management Company (DMC), and DCT Abu Dhabi will cover the fee directly. This means the visa cost should simply not appear on your final bill for the holiday package.
Key Dates and Important Considerations
This is a time-sensitive offer. The promotional period is from August 1 to October 31, 2026. Crucially, your travel must be completed within this window to be eligible. Booking before the deadline for travel at a later date will not qualify you for the free visa. Since the programme is limited to the first 20,000 visas, it is highly advisable to book early and confirm with your travel agent that the offer is still available before making a payment. Given the high demand from the Indian travel market, the quota could be reached well before the October 31 deadline. All visa applications remain subject to the standard immigration rules and approval by UAE authorities.
Making the Most of Your Abu Dhabi Trip
With the visa cost covered, travellers can allocate more of their budget to exploring what Abu Dhabi has to offer. A minimum three-night stay provides ample time to experience the city's diverse attractions. You can immerse yourself in art and culture at the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, experience the spiritual serenity of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, or enjoy world-class thrills at the theme parks on Yas Island, including Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld. The city also offers stunning waterfront promenades, vast desert landscapes for safari adventures, and a rich culinary scene. This visa waiver programme is part of a broader effort by Abu Dhabi to strengthen ties with India, a key tourism market for the emirate.
