Introducing the Amrit Bharat Express
Indian Railways is regularising a special train service into the new 15095/15096 Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express. This move aims to provide a reliable and budget-friendly travel solution for one of the country's most high-demand corridors, particularly
benefiting passengers from the lower and lower-middle income categories. The Amrit Bharat category of trains is designed to offer an upgraded travel experience with modern amenities, focusing primarily on non-AC coaches to keep fares accessible. This new weekly service is part of a broader push by the Ministry of Railways to enhance connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
Schedule and Timings
The regular service is set to begin its run from Gorakhpur on August 27, 2026, and from Delhi the following day, August 28. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM, reaching Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM on Friday. For the return journey, Train No. 15096 will leave Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:00 PM and arrive in Gorakhpur at 6:25 AM the next morning. The total journey is expected to take around 14 hours, covering a distance of approximately 780 kilometres at a maximum speed of 130 kmph. Passengers are always advised to check the official National Train Enquiry System for any last-minute schedule changes.
Route and Major Halts
The train will connect several key towns in Uttar Pradesh directly to Delhi, enhancing access for many commuters. The service will operate via the Gonda route and has eight scheduled intermediate stops. For the Delhi-bound journey, key halts after leaving Gorakhpur include Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. This route provides a crucial link for passengers from these regions, who often face immense rush on existing trains. The primary maintenance for the train's rake will be handled at Gorakhpur.
A Modern, Budget-Friendly Option
The Amrit Bharat Express is positioned as a significant step up from conventional passenger trains, incorporating features aimed at improving comfort and safety. These trains are known for their modern design, which includes push-pull technology for faster acceleration and deceleration, semi-permanent couplers for jerk-free rides, and improved non-AC coaches. Onboard amenities typically include CCTV cameras, bio-vacuum toilets, sensor-based water taps, and passenger information systems. While providing a superior experience, the service remains focused on affordability, catering to a large segment of travellers on this route.
How It Compares to Other Trains
The Delhi-Gorakhpur route is served by several popular trains, including the Gorakhdham Express, Bihar Sampark Kranti, and Vaishali Express, but securing a confirmed ticket remains a challenge for many. The new Amrit Bharat Express offers a distinct advantage with its modern LHB coaches and focus on the unreserved and non-AC sleeper class, directly addressing the demand for budget travel. While premium trains like the Humsafar Express offer fully AC-3 Tier travel, their dynamic pricing can be a deterrent for some. The Amrit Bharat aims to fill the gap between premium services and older, slower passenger trains, providing a balanced choice of speed, comfort, and cost.
