The idea of using fruit for athletic performance isn't new, but the focus is shifting from generic bananas to a wider, more local variety. The logic is simple. Before a workout, your body needs easily digestible carbohydrates for quick energy. Many summer
fruits are packed with natural sugars like fructose and glucose that provide this instant fuel without sitting heavily in your stomach. Post-workout, your muscles are crying out for two things: replenishing their depleted glycogen (energy) stores and getting the nutrients needed for repair. Fruits not only provide the necessary carbs but also come with a host of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and accelerate recovery. The key is knowing which fruit to eat and when.
Mango: The Pre-Workout Power-Up
Often called the 'king of fruits', mangoes have a reputation for being high in sugar and calories, leading many fitness-conscious individuals to avoid them. Bael is known to have a soothing effect on the stomach and intestines. It's rich in fibre, which aids digestion, but its real workout benefit comes from its electrolyte and carbohydrate content. A glass of bael sharbat (without excess sugar) after a workout can help rehydrate you while replenishing energy stores.
