Meet the Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express
Indian Railways has officially approved the new 15095/15096 Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express. This service is designed to cater to the high volume of passengers on this route, particularly benefiting migrant workers and families looking for an affordable
yet comfortable travel option. Unlike the premium, all-AC Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat Express is a non-AC service with sleeper and general unreserved coaches, aimed at making modern train travel accessible to the common person. It will be operated by the North Eastern Railway and is expected to ease the perennial rush, especially during festive seasons. The introduction of this train regularises a previously run special service, providing a permanent new link between Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
Schedule and Timings
The new Amrit Bharat Express will run once a week. Train number 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur every Thursday at 10:45 PM and is scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 12:50 PM the next day. For the return journey, train number 15096 will leave Delhi every Friday at 2:00 PM, reaching Gorakhpur at 6:25 AM on Saturday morning. The total journey covers a distance of approximately 780 kilometres in about 14 hours. This timing makes it a convenient overnight option for travellers heading to Delhi and a comfortable day and overnight journey for those returning to Gorakhpur.
Key Features and Modern Amenities
The Amrit Bharat Express is built for speed and comfort. It employs push-pull technology, with a locomotive at both ends, allowing for faster acceleration and deceleration and reducing overall travel time. The train can reach a maximum speed of 130 kmph. Inside, passengers will find a host of modern amenities that are a significant upgrade from conventional coaches. These include cushioned berths, foldable snack tables, mobile charging sockets with USB-A and C-type ports for every passenger, and radium illumination strips on the floor for better visibility at night. The train also features fully sealed gangways for jerk-free travel and advanced, aesthetically pleasing bio-vacuum toilets with an odour control system.

The train provides crucial connectivity to several key towns in Uttar Pradesh between Gorakhpur and Delhi. On its journey, the 15095/15096 Amrit Bharat Express will make eight stops. The designated halts are at Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. These stops are strategically chosen to serve passengers from important regional centres who frequently travel to the national capital for work, education, and other purposes, making the journey more accessible for a wider population.
How It Compares to Other Trains
The Delhi-Gorakhpur route is one of the busiest in the country, served by popular trains like the Gorakhdham Superfast Express, Vaishali Express, and various Humsafar and Sampark Kranti services. The new Amrit Bharat Express carves its own niche. While the fastest trains like the Gorakhpur Humsafar Express can cover the distance in around 12-13 hours, they are fully air-conditioned and more expensive. The Amrit Bharat offers a faster journey time of 14 hours compared to other non-AC options like the Satyagrah Express, which can take over 16 hours. Its key selling point is the blend of modern, Vande Bharat-style amenities and speed with an affordable, non-AC fare structure, offering a significant upgrade in comfort without a premium price tag.
