Saudi Arabia has launched an integrated 'Package Visa' designed to simplify travel for tourists from several countries, including India. This system allows travellers to book their electronic tourist visa, return flights, and accommodation all in one
go through an authorised travel provider. The goal is to create a seamless, one-stop-shop experience, reducing the paperwork and coordination required for a trip to the Kingdom. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a plan to boost tourism and make the country more accessible to international visitors. Instead of juggling separate applications and bookings, you can now handle the core components of your trip through a single, unified process.
Key Benefits for Indian Travellers
The primary advantage of the Package Visa is convenience. By bundling the visa application with flight and hotel bookings, it eliminates the need to navigate multiple websites and processes. This is particularly beneficial for families or groups, as a single package can include up to 14 members. The package must be booked at least 48 hours before departure and requires a minimum stay of two days, with a maximum stay of up to 88 or 90 days allowed. Furthermore, the integrated price often includes mandatory travel and health insurance, providing clarity on the total cost upfront and reducing the chance of hidden fees. This streamlined approach ensures your accommodation is confirmed at a licensed hotel before you even fly.
Eligibility and Requirements
The new Package Visa is currently in a pilot phase and is available to citizens of seven countries, including India, Pakistan, Egypt, and Indonesia. To qualify, travellers must book a package through an approved travel and tourism service provider. This package has a few conditions: it must include a return flight, a stay at a hotel with a minimum four-star rating, and mandatory insurance. Beyond the package-specific rules, general Saudi visa requirements for Indians still apply. You will need a passport with at least six months of validity from your date of entry and at least two blank pages.
How to Apply for the Package Visa
The process is designed to be straightforward. Instead of applying through the standard e-visa portal, you book your trip with an airline or tour operator that is approved by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism to offer these integrated packages. During the booking process for your flights and hotel, the system automatically handles the electronic visa application as part of the transaction. This means the visa is issued digitally and linked to your travel package, with no need for a traditional paper visa sticker in your passport. The entire process can be completed online, making it significantly faster and more efficient than previous methods. For other visa types, centres like VFS Tasheel remain the authorised service points.
A Note for Umrah Pilgrims
While a standard tourist visa allows for the performance of Umrah, the process for pilgrims often involves specific digital platforms. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah operates the 'Nusak' platform, an official digital gateway for planning trips to Makkah and Madinah. While Indian citizens currently cannot apply for an Umrah visa directly through the Nusuk app and must go through an authorised agent, the integrated package model shares the same spirit of simplification. The new Package Visa for general tourism is a separate initiative but aligns with the broader goal of making all forms of travel to the Kingdom more streamlined.
Is the Package Visa Right for You?

However, it may be less suitable for budget-conscious or independent travellers who prefer to have more flexibility in choosing their own hotels, flights, and travel dates. Those holding valid US, UK, or Schengen visas may also still be eligible for a visa on arrival or a separate e-visa, which could offer more flexibility.
