The 2026 Free Visa Initiative
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a special promotional offer for Indian tourists. This pilot programme covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible travellers, aiming to make holidays in the capital
simpler and more affordable. The initiative is designed exclusively for Indian passport holders who book a qualifying holiday package through designated travel partners. This is a limited-time scheme with a specific travel window and a cap on the number of available visas, so planning ahead is crucial for anyone hoping to take advantage of the offer.
Offer Dates and Validity
This free visa programme is a three-month pilot, valid for travel between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. It's important to note that these dates refer to the actual travel period, not just the booking window. Your trip to Abu Dhabi must take place within this timeframe to qualify for the free visa. The initiative is capped, with up to 20,000 visas available during this initial phase, making early booking advisable.
Who is Eligible for the Free Visa?
To qualify for this offer, travellers must meet a specific set of conditions. The promotion is available exclusively to Indian passport holders who are travelling from India. The core requirement is the booking of a complete holiday package. This package must include both a return flight from India and a hotel stay of at least three consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi. It is essential to understand that booking a flight or hotel separately will not make you eligible for the complimentary visa; it must be part of a bundled package from a participating agent.
Booking Conditions and How to Apply
Securing the free visa is tied directly to your holiday booking process. You cannot apply for this visa independently. Instead, the visa cost is waived when you book a qualifying package through a participating travel partner or online travel agency, such as Akbar Travels. The tourism authority, DCT Abu Dhabi, covers or reimburses the visa fee directly with these partners. When booking, you must ensure your package includes the minimum three-night stay and return flights. The travel agency will then handle the visa process as part of the package deal, saving you the typical application fee.
Other Visa Options for Indian Travellers
Even if you don't qualify for the promotional offer, there are other convenient ways for Indian citizens to visit Abu Dhabi. Many travellers can make use of transit visas. A 48-hour transit visa is often free or available for a small fee of around AED 55, while a 96-hour transit visa costs more but allows for a longer stay. These must be arranged in advance through a UAE-based airline like Etihad. Additionally, Indian passport holders who have a valid visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, or an EU country may be eligible for a 14-day visa on arrival for a fee. This provides flexibility for those who meet the criteria, but it is not free.
