Alia's Philosophy: Simple and Healthy
Alia Bhatt has often spoken about her approach to diet and wellness, which prioritises simple, home-cooked meals over restrictive fads. While her disciplined routine helped her famously shed 20 kgs for her debut role, her long-term philosophy is about balance,
not deprivation. She prefers traditional Indian food, like dal-chawal and ragi rotis, and believes in eating frequent, smaller meals to stay energised throughout her busy schedule. It's no surprise, then, that her go-to sweet treat isn't some complex confection but a wholesome, easy-to-make laddoo. In an interview, she shared that she eats a snack made of ghee, jaggery, peanuts, and coconut for great skin, and this recipe is an extension of that philosophy.
The Four-Ingredient Powerhouse
The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity and the nutritional value of its core components. The viral 'skin glow' laddoo combines four key ingredients: ghee, jaggery, peanuts, and coconut. Ghee provides healthy fats that aid in absorbing fat-soluble vitamins and support hormone health. Jaggery, or 'gur', serves as a natural sweetener and, unlike refined sugar, contains trace minerals like iron. Peanuts are a fantastic source of plant-based protein, healthy fats, and skin-loving nutrients like vitamin E and biotin, which help keep you feeling full and satisfied. Finally, coconut adds dietary fibre and a rich, aromatic flavour that makes these laddoos truly irresistible. Together, these ingredients create a balanced snack that satisfies sweet cravings without the guilt.
The Quick and Easy Recipe
You don’t need to be a kitchen expert to whip up these laddoos. Based on shared versions of the recipe, the process takes just a few minutes. Ingredients: 1 tablespoon Ghee ½ cup Jaggery (Gur), crushed or powdered 1 cup Roasted Peanuts, coarsely crushed ½ cup Desiccated or freshly grated Coconut Method: 1. In a pan, gently heat the ghee on a low flame. 2. Add the jaggery and let it melt completely, stirring continuously to prevent it from burning. 3. Once the jaggery has melted into a smooth syrup, turn off the heat. Add the crushed roasted peanuts and coconut to the pan. 4. Mix everything together until the coconut and peanuts are evenly coated with the jaggery syrup. 5. Allow the mixture to cool down slightly, just enough so you can handle it. 6. Grease your palms with a little ghee and shape the mixture into small, round laddoos. 7. You can roll the finished laddoos in some extra desiccated coconut for a professional touch and added texture.
Tips and Variations
While the four-ingredient recipe is perfect on its own, you can easily customize it. For a more aromatic flavour, add a pinch of cardamom powder along with the coconut and peanuts. If you don’t have peanuts, roasted almonds or cashews, finely chopped, make excellent substitutes. For an even richer texture, you can lightly toast the desiccated coconut in the pan for a minute or two before adding the jaggery syrup. These laddoos can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, making them a perfect make-ahead snack for busy days or an ideal homemade gift for festive occasions. Some variations suggest using fresh coconut, which adds more moisture and a distinct flavour, though it may reduce the shelf life slightly.
