Understanding the New Visa Rules
One of the biggest advantages for Indian travellers has been Thailand's friendly visa policy. As of September 2026, the rules have been updated. Indian passport holders are eligible for a visa-free stay of up to 30 days. This replaces a previous 60-day
exemption but keeps the process simple and, most importantly, free—saving you the typical visa application fee and hassle. This 30-day window is perfect for a 6-day trip, allowing you to enter the country for tourism without needing to apply for a visa in advance. Do note that you will need to fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before you travel.
How the ₹30,000 Budget Works
The ₹30,000 figure is a realistic goal for your expenses within Thailand, but it requires discipline. This budget is calculated per person and excludes your round-trip international flights from India, which can vary significantly based on your departure city and booking time. Here’s a plausible breakdown for six days and five nights: Accommodation (5 nights): ₹6,000 (₹1,200/night in hostels). Food: ₹6,000 (₹1,000/day for street food and local eateries). Local Transport: ₹4,000 (scooter rentals, songthaews, and ferries between islands). Activities & Tours: ₹10,000 (island hopping tours, entry fees, etc.). * Miscellaneous: ₹4,000 (buffer for unforeseen costs). This totals exactly ₹30,000. To achieve this, you'll need to stay in budget-friendly hostels, primarily eat delicious and cheap street food, and use local transport instead of private taxis. Street food dishes like Pad Thai or meat skewers can cost as little as ₹100-₹200 per meal.
Day 1: Arrival in Phuket & Patong Exploration
Fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT). From the airport, take a shared minivan or a local bus to the Patong area, which is known for its vibrant atmosphere and budget accommodation options. Check into your pre-booked hostel (approx. ₹800-₹1,300 per night). Spend the afternoon settling in and take a walk along the famous Patong Beach. In the evening, explore the bustling night markets for your first taste of authentic Thai street food. A hearty dinner can cost you as little as ₹300-₹400. End your night with a stroll down the lively Bangla Road to soak in the sights and sounds.
Day 2: Phuket's Famous Island Hopping Tour
Today is all about exploring the iconic islands near Phuket. Book a full-day group island-hopping tour to the Phi Phi Islands, which often includes Maya Bay and Bamboo Island. These tours can be booked from local agents for around ₹2,500-₹3,500 and typically include hotel pickup, a speedboat journey, a buffet lunch, snorkelling gear, and drinking water. It's a fantastic value-for-money experience, packing in multiple stunning locations in one day. You'll spend the day swimming in emerald lagoons, snorkelling among colourful fish, and lounging on pristine white-sand beaches. You will return to your hostel in the evening, tired but thrilled.
Day 3: Phuket's Culture and Travel to Krabi
Spend the morning exploring more of Phuket. You can rent a scooter (approx. ₹250-₹300 for 24 hours) to visit the Big Buddha, a giant white marble statue with panoramic views of the island, and wander through the charming streets of Old Phuket Town with its Sino-Portuguese architecture. In the afternoon, catch a ferry from Rassada Pier in Phuket to Krabi. The journey takes about two to three hours and costs around ₹1,000-₹1,500. Upon arrival in Krabi, head to the Ao Nang area, your base for the next two nights. Check into your hostel (approx. ₹900-₹1,400 per night) and enjoy dinner at the Ao Nang night market.
Day 4: Railay Beach and Rock Climbing Views
From Ao Nang, take a long-tail boat (around ₹200 round trip) to the stunning Railay Beach, a peninsula accessible only by water. Railay is famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs, soft sandy beaches, and hidden lagoon. You can spend the day sunbathing, swimming, or for the more adventurous, try rock climbing (lessons are available but will stretch the budget). Hike up to the Railay viewpoint for breathtaking photos of the entire peninsula. It's a challenging climb but well worth the effort. Enjoy a simple lunch at one of the beachside restaurants before heading back to Ao Nang in the late afternoon.
Day 5: Krabi's Four Islands Tour
Embark on another island adventure, this time exploring Krabi's local gems. The 'Four Islands Tour' is a popular and affordable day trip that takes you to Tup Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island, and the Phra Nang Cave Beach. Bookable from local tour operators for around ₹1,200-₹1,500, this speedboat or long-tail boat tour includes snorkelling and lunch. You'll witness the unique sandbar that connects Tup and Chicken islands during low tide and explore the fertility shrine inside Phra Nang Cave. It's a more relaxed day of beach hopping compared to the Phi Phi tour, showcasing Krabi's unique coastal beauty.
Day 6: Souvenirs and Departure
Enjoy a final Thai breakfast from a local stall. Depending on your flight schedule from Krabi International Airport (KBV), you might have time for some last-minute souvenir shopping at a local market. Look for small handicrafts, spices, or packaged snacks. Afterwards, take a shared van or arrange for a shuttle to the airport for your flight back home, filled with memories of an incredible and affordable island adventure.
