Check Timings and Book Your Slot
The first step to a perfect visit is planning your entry. For the Summer Annuals Edition, Amrit Udyan is open to the public from August 16 to September 15, 2026. The gardens welcome visitors from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry permitted at 5:00
PM. Remember that the gardens are closed every Monday for maintenance. Entry is free, but booking a slot online in advance is mandatory. There are no on-the-spot booking facilities. You can reserve your time slot on the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. Bookings for a specific day close at 10:00 AM the day before, so it's wise to plan ahead, especially for weekends.
Embrace the Monsoon Weather
Visiting during the monsoon means you'll likely encounter rain, but this can enhance the experience with fewer crowds and vibrant, rain-washed flora. According to the India Meteorological Department, late August in Delhi is expected to see generally cloudy skies with spells of light to moderate rain. Temperatures are likely to be in the range of 32°C to 34°C. Don't let a forecast of light showers deter you; the gardens have some sheltered pathways. However, it's always a good idea to check the latest weather update on the day of your visit before you head out.
Dress Smart for a Rainy Day
Your comfort is key to enjoying the expansive gardens. Opt for comfortable, non-slip footwear, as stone pathways can become slippery when wet. Choose lightweight, quick-drying fabrics for your clothing. Carrying a sturdy umbrella is a must, and it's officially permitted within the garden premises. A light waterproof jacket can also be a great alternative, keeping your hands free to take photos with your mobile phone, which is allowed inside. Professional cameras and large backpacks, however, are not permitted.
Know What to Bring (and What to Leave)
A little preparation goes a long way. Visitors are allowed to carry wallets, purses, and, of course, umbrellas. If you are visiting with an infant, you can carry a small handbag with water and a milk bottle. However, other eatables, cigarettes, and backpacks are restricted. It is essential to carry a government-issued photo ID that matches the details you provided during the online booking. For convenience, facilities like drinking water, first-aid stations, and restrooms are available for visitors along the designated route.
Getting There and Navigating the Gardens
Reaching Amrit Udyan is straightforward. The nearest metro station is Central Secretariat, which is well-connected on the Yellow and Violet lines. A convenient shuttle bus service runs every 30 minutes from the metro station to the entry point, Gate No. 35 on North Avenue Road, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. This is the designated entry and exit point for all visitors. Inside, you can explore various sections, including the main lawns, the Bonsai Garden, and a new Babbling Brook Garden. The monsoon edition focuses on indigenous and local flowering plants that thrive in this weather.
