What Exactly Is the Free Visa Scheme?
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a new tourism programme specifically for the Indian market. Under this initiative, the government is covering the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian passport
holders. The scheme runs for three months, from August 1 until the firm deadline of October 31, 2026. It's important to note this isn't a visa-free-for-all arrangement; rather, the visa fee is waived when you book a qualifying holiday package. This pilot programme aims to issue up to 20,000 visas, so it's a first-come, first-served opportunity.
Am I Eligible for This Offer?
The offer is designed to be straightforward, but there are specific conditions you must meet to qualify. Firstly, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. The core requirement is that you must book your trip through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. Your travel package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a confirmed return flight from India. You cannot apply for this free visa independently; it is exclusively tied to these bundled holiday packages.
How Do I Apply?
The process is handled entirely by your travel agent, making it simple for the traveller. Your first step is to find and book a qualifying Abu Dhabi holiday package from a participating company. Once you have booked your minimum three-night hotel stay and return flights, you will submit the necessary documents to your agent. The travel partner will then process the visa application on your behalf. DCT Abu Dhabi has arranged for the visa cost to be covered directly with appointed destination management companies (DMCs), or they will reimburse the travel partner a total of Dh285 for each visa issued under the scheme.
What Documents Will I Need?
While your travel agent will guide you, it's always wise to have your documents ready. You will need a valid Indian passport with at least six months of validity from your planned date of entry into the UAE. You will also need recent passport-sized photographs, your confirmed flight tickets showing a return journey to India, and proof of your hotel booking for at least three nights in Abu Dhabi. Your travel partner will likely require a completed visa application form and will handle the submission for you.
Understanding the 'Free' Aspect
The scheme covers the direct cost of the UAE entry visa, which is a significant saving of Dh285 (approximately $77) per person. This reduces the upfront cost of your trip, which is especially beneficial for families and groups. However, the offer is tied to a complete travel package. This means you must book your flights and a multi-night hotel stay through specific channels. Travellers should compare the total cost of these packages to ensure the overall deal is beneficial for their budget, rather than focusing only on the waived visa fee. The programme is a direct subsidy to make holidaying in the emirate more affordable and attractive for Indian tourists.
