A Global Leader in Hiring Confidence
For the October to December 2026 period, India's Net Employment Outlook (NEO) stands at a robust 54%, making it the strongest among 42 countries surveyed by ManpowerGroup. This key indicator, which measures the difference between employers planning to hire
and those expecting to reduce staff, saw a significant six-point jump from the previous quarter and an eleven-point increase year-on-year. Around 65% of the 3,055 employers surveyed plan to increase their staffing levels, while only 11% anticipate a reduction, signaling a broad-based positive sentiment across the corporate landscape. This places India's hiring outlook 25 percentage points above the global average, reflecting strong business confidence and a workforce in expansion mode.
The Sectors Driving the Surge
The hiring boom is not uniform, with specific sectors leading the charge. The Finance and Insurance sector reports one of the strongest outlooks at 60%, propelled by strong credit demand and the ongoing expansion of digital financial services. The Hospitality sector has also seen a dramatic quarterly improvement, with its outlook jumping by 21 percentage points to 58%, likely boosted by festive season travel and consumption. The Information Technology (IT) sector remains a powerhouse, with a strong outlook of 57%. After a period of slower recruitment, IT services firms are showing renewed momentum, with tens of thousands of open roles reported for September. Other strong performers include e-commerce, travel, retail, and automotive sectors, indicating a recovery driven by both digital transformation and consumer demand.
The Skills in High Demand
This wave of hiring is increasingly focused on specific skills rather than just headcount growth. Employers are prioritizing candidates with future-ready capabilities. The demand for roles related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has surged, with some reports noting a 31% year-on-year increase in hiring for these positions. However, the need extends beyond pure tech roles. Companies across all industries, from banking to healthcare, are seeking professionals who can work with AI tools, manage data, and ensure cybersecurity. A recent survey showed that 69% of employers planning to hire cite changing roles and the need for new expertise as primary drivers. Digital literacy, communication, data analysis, and project management are becoming essential skills across the board.
Geographic Hotspots for Jobseekers
While hiring intent is strong nationally, certain cities are emerging as clear leaders. The East region of India reports the most competitive outlook with a NEO of 59%. Among cities, Bengaluru continues to lead in hiring intent, followed closely by Hyderabad and Pune. Other southern cities like Chennai are also showing very strong growth. This concentration in major tech and business hubs highlights the role of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and large enterprises in driving employment. Mid-sized to large companies, particularly those with 1,000 to 4,999 employees, report the highest optimism. However, there are positive signs of hiring expanding beyond the metros into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as well.
