Demystifying the Package Visa
Saudi Arabia has launched a new 'Package Visa' initiative designed to overhaul the travel planning experience. Instead of being a standalone entry permit, this visa is an integrated part of a complete travel bundle that you purchase from an accredited
travel provider. Think of it as a single transaction for your entire trip. When you book your package, you are simultaneously arranging your flights, hotel, and securing your visa, all in one go. This digital-first approach is currently available to travellers from a handful of countries, including India, as part of a pilot program launched in July 2026. The goal is to make visiting the Kingdom more seamless and accessible, aligning with its ambitious Vision 2030 tourism goals.
The 'One-Stop Paperwork' Promise
The most significant advantage of the Package Visa is the drastic reduction in administrative hassle. Traditionally, planning an international trip involves a sequence of separate, often stressful, steps: booking flights, securing accommodation, and then navigating a separate, sometimes lengthy, visa application process. The Package Visa collapses these steps into a single, digital transaction. Travellers select a pre-approved package, complete the payment, and the system handles the rest. The electronic visa is typically issued and emailed to you within 48 hours, eliminating the need to visit an embassy or fill out standalone visa forms. This integrated journey means less time spent coordinating different bookings and more time planning what you'll actually do on your trip.
A Smarter Way to Budget Your Trip
For many travellers, budgeting is a major point of anxiety. The Package Visa offers a clear solution by providing upfront cost certainty. Because the visa, flights, and mandatory accommodation are bundled together, you know the primary cost of your trip before you book. Packages must include round-trip flights and a stay at a Ministry of Tourism-licensed hotel rated four stars or higher. This bundling helps avoid the unpredictable nature of booking components separately, where prices can fluctuate. Furthermore, travellers can add optional services like tours, event tickets, and local activities into their package, allowing for a comprehensive budget from the outset. This makes financial planning more straightforward, which is a welcome benefit for families and solo travellers alike.
Who Is This For? Tourists and Pilgrims
While launched as a tourist visa, the Package Visa holds significant appeal for religious pilgrims from India. The package itself does not include specific Umrah services. However, once in the Kingdom on this tourist visa, travellers are permitted to visit the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah and perform Umrah, subject to the rules governing the holy sites. This continues a flexible policy that was already in place with other forms of the Saudi tourist visa. For pilgrims who have historically relied on dedicated package tours, this new system offers a more streamlined, government-accredited alternative. It simplifies the logistics for a broad range of visitors, from leisure tourists eager to explore sites like AlUla to pilgrims undertaking a sacred journey.
What You Need to Know Before Booking
To ensure a smooth experience, the Package Visa is only available through accredited travel and tourism service providers with certified digital platforms and 24/7 support. The visa issued is a single-entry permit, valid for a stay of up to 88 days within a three-month window. It is important to note that the visa is intrinsically linked to the package; if you cancel your travel package, the associated visa is automatically revoked. As this is a new initiative being rolled out in phases, it is essential to book through official and approved channels to guarantee the validity of the package and the visa.
