Understanding the 'Free' Visa Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that offers a complimentary 30-day UAE visa to eligible Indian passport holders. This is not a visa-free travel policy for all Indians, but rather a targeted
tourism campaign where the visa cost is covered or reimbursed for specific holiday packages. The initiative runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially capped at 20,000 visas. The primary goal is to make Abu Dhabi a more accessible and attractive destination for one of its most important international markets. The value of the waived visa fee is approximately AED 285 (around $77).
Who Is Eligible for the Programme?
This offer is specifically for Indian passport holders travelling from India. To qualify for the free visa, travellers cannot apply independently. Instead, they must book a qualifying holiday package through one of several participating travel partners. The booking must include two main components: a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel, and a return flight booking. Simply booking a flight to the emirate will not make you eligible for the visa cost waiver. The offer is tied directly to these pre-packaged holidays.
How to Book and Avail the Offer
To take advantage of this scheme, Indian tourists must book their Abu Dhabi trip through one of the 11 designated travel partners. These include well-known companies like MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook, SOTC, and Kesari Tours, among others. When a qualifying package is booked, the travel company handles the visa process. They can either work with a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the cost directly, or use their own DMC partners and receive a reimbursement of AED 285 per visa. For the traveller, the process is seamless, as the visa cost is simply removed from their holiday package expense.
Important Dates and Conditions
The programme is time-sensitive. It is valid for travel completed between August 1 and October 31, 2026. Booking a trip within this window for travel at a later date will not qualify you for the offer. Each traveller in a group must meet the requirements to have their visa cost covered, although there is no limit on the number of free visas per family or booking, as long as the overall scheme cap of 20,000 visas has not been reached. This initiative represents a potential direct travel subsidy of up to $1.5 million from Abu Dhabi to attract Indian visitors.
Other Visa Options for Indian Travellers
It is important to distinguish this limited-time offer from the UAE's standard visa-on-arrival facility for certain Indian citizens. Indian passport holders with a valid US visa or Green Card, or a residence permit from the UK or an EU country, can obtain a 14-day visa on arrival for a fee. This visa can be extended once for another 14 days. This facility is available year-round at any UAE port of entry and is independent of the Abu Dhabi tourism promotion. To be eligible for this, the passport and the foreign visa or residence permit must have a validity of at least six months from the date of travel.
