A Guru and His Protégé
The entire premise of King reportedly revolves around the complex relationship between Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan’s characters. According to multiple sources, SRK is set to portray an older, ruthless assassin or a don with a dark past. In this dangerous
underworld, he takes on a young protégée, played by Suhana, training her in the art of survival and combat. This dynamic of a mentor and his apprentice is said to be the emotional core of the film. Rumours have strongly suggested that the film is inspired by the 1994 French classic, Léon: The Professional, which features a similar story of a hitman who reluctantly becomes the guardian and teacher of a young girl after her family is murdered. While SRK’s role was initially thought to be an extended cameo, it has since been reported to be a full-fledged lead, establishing him as the central pillar of the narrative alongside Suhana.
The Formidable Antagonist
Every great hero—or anti-hero—needs a villain of equal measure, and King has reportedly found its primary antagonist in Abhishek Bachchan. The news, confirmed by his father Amitabh Bachchan, sent waves of excitement through the industry. Abhishek is rumoured to be playing a sophisticated and nasty arch-villain, a role he was personally convinced to take on by Shah Rukh Khan himself. This won't be a simple villainous turn; sources claim the makers have planned an epic face-off between SRK and Abhishek, possibly even a shirtless climax, that promises to be a major highlight. The conflict between their characters is said to be deeply personal, with some reports suggesting that Suhana’s character is the bone of contention between the two powerful men.
A Web of Alliances and Enmities
Beyond the central trio, King is shaping up to be a star-studded affair with a massive ensemble cast, each reportedly playing a pivotal role. The story is rumoured to span two different timelines, which could explain the large cast. In the present day, while the older SRK battles Abhishek Bachchan, his younger self might have faced a different foe. The film reportedly also features Deepika Padukone, possibly in a key flashback role as Suhana’s mother. Veteran actor Anil Kapoor is said to be playing SRK’s handler or mentor, adding another layer to the intricate underworld hierarchy. Further populating this world are actors like Jackie Shroff and Jaideep Ahlawat, who are both rumoured to be playing negative characters, creating a multi-pronged threat against the protagonists.
The World of King
Under the direction of Siddharth Anand, known for helming the blockbuster Pathaan, King is being mounted as a high-octane action spectacle with a global scale. Reports speak of spectacular action sequences being filmed in exotic locations worldwide, designed to rival international standards. SRK himself has described his character as being "very dark" and a "killer," a departure from some of his more recent heroic roles. This gritty portrayal was recently teased in a new poster released on September 17, showcasing a rugged SRK with a scar, further solidifying the film’s intense tone. With a supporting cast that also includes names like Rani Mukerji and Arshad Warsi, the narrative promises a dense, interconnected world of crime, revenge, and loyalty.
