The Visa Situation: What's New?
The best news for Indian travellers is the continued visa-free entry. As of mid-2026, the Thai government has confirmed that Indian passport holders are eligible for a 30-day visa exemption for tourism. This replaces previous, often confusing, systems
of visa-on-arrival or longer 60-day exemptions. Essentially, for a holiday of up to 30 days, you no longer need to apply for a visa beforehand or on arrival. This simplifies your pre-trip planning significantly, saving both time and money. Just be aware that policies can change, so a quick check of the Royal Thai Embassy's website before you fly is always a smart move.
The Most Important New Step: TDAC
While the visa process is simpler, there is a new mandatory step for everyone: the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). This free online form has replaced the old paper TM.6 arrival card that was filled out on the plane. All foreign travellers must complete the TDAC online within 72 hours before arriving in Thailand. You'll need your passport details, flight number, and the address of your first night's stay. Once you submit the form on the official TDAC website, you will receive a QR code. Be sure to screenshot it or save it, as you'll need to show it at immigration. Beware of scam websites that ask for payment; the official TDAC is completely free.
Passport, Tickets, and Accommodation
These are the classic three, and they're as important as ever. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Thailand. Immigration officials will also require proof of a confirmed flight ticket out of Thailand within your 30-day permitted stay. It’s also standard practice to be asked for proof of your accommodation, so keep your hotel or hostel booking confirmations handy, either printed or on your phone. These documents prove you are a genuine tourist with a clear plan to enjoy the country and return home.
Proving You Have Sufficient Funds
This rule often causes anxiety, but it’s straightforward. Thai immigration authorities reserve the right to ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay. For those entering on a visa exemption, the generally required amount is 10,000 Thai Baht (THB) per person or 20,000 THB per family. While checks are random, you must be prepared. This doesn't have to be entirely in cash. While carrying some Thai Baht is wise, you can also use a recent bank statement or show a credit card with a healthy limit. The key is to be able to demonstrate that you can support yourself during your holiday without issues.
Health and Insurance Smarts
As of August 2026, there are no specific COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements for entry into Thailand. However, travel insurance is highly recommended. A good travel insurance plan provides a crucial safety net for any unexpected medical emergencies, which can be expensive abroad. It also typically covers trip cancellations, lost luggage, and other travel mishaps. While not a mandatory requirement for entry for most tourists, purchasing a comprehensive plan is one of the smartest investments you can make for peace of mind on your trip.
