What Exactly Is the Free Visa Offer?
This is not a visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival scheme for all Indians. Instead, it is a tourism promotion by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). Under this pilot programme, DCT Abu Dhabi will cover the cost of a UAE entry visa,
which is approximately Dh285 ($77), for eligible Indian travellers. The offer is valid for bookings made between August 1 and October 31, 2026. However, the programme is limited to a total of 20,000 visas, so it's a first-come, first-served opportunity. Travellers cannot apply for this free visa independently; it must be processed through a participating travel partner as part of a package deal.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for the visa fee waiver, Indian travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. Critically, all conditions must be met. The applicant must be an Indian passport holder departing from India. The trip must be booked as a package that includes both a return flight from India and a hotel stay of at least three consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi. A hotel stay in Dubai, for instance, would not qualify even if you visit Abu Dhabi during your trip. Finally, and most importantly, the entire package must be booked through one of the participating travel agencies or online travel agencies (OTAs).
How Do You Book and Apply?
The process is handled entirely by your travel agent. The first step is to find a participating travel partner and choose a qualifying holiday package. Once you've selected your package, you will submit the required travel documents to the agency. The travel partner will then process the visa on your behalf. They do this in one of two ways: either by working with a DCT-appointed Destination Management Company (DMC) where the fee is covered directly, or by getting a reimbursement of Dh285 from DCT Abu Dhabi after processing it through their own DMC partners. For the traveller, the end result is the same: the visa fee is not an additional cost on your final bill.
Participating Travel Partners
While DCT Abu Dhabi has not released a single, comprehensive public list, several major travel companies have been confirmed as partners in the initiative. Indian tourists must book their qualifying package through one of these registered agencies to be eligible. Some of the confirmed participating partners include Akbar Travels, Thomas Cook, MakeMyTrip, and SOTC. Other names that have been reported as part of the scheme are Holiday Tribe, Thrillophilia, Utazzo.com, Kesari Tours, Riya Travels, Royal Tours, PickYourTrail, and Aaryan Leisure. It is always best to contact the travel agency directly to confirm they are registered for DCT Abu Dhabi's visa subsidy programme before booking.
Key Rules and Fine Print
There are several important details to remember. The offer is for a limited time, ending October 31, 2026, and is capped at 20,000 visas, which may be reached before the end date. The trip itself must also be completed by October 31. This is not a separate fast-track visa service; standard processing times will still apply. The offer applies per traveller, so a family of four meeting the conditions would save on four separate visa fees. There is no limit on the number of free visas per family booking, as long as each individual meets the requirements. Lastly, this promotion is distinct from other UAE visa rules, such as the paid visa-on-arrival for Indians holding valid US, UK, or EU visas.
