An Action Thriller with a Twist
King is shaping up to be a slick, high-octane action thriller. While details of the plot are being kept under wraps, the core of the story is reportedly inspired by the French classic 'Léon: The Professional'. The film is said to explore the dynamic between
a mentor and his protégé. Shah Rukh Khan is slated to play the role of a highly skilled, dangerous assassin, a character whose name inspires terror. The film's title reveal poster, which showed SRK in a salt-and-pepper look, came with the chilling line, "Darr nahi, dehshat hoon" (I am not fear, I am terror), setting a menacing tone. The project is being mounted on a massive scale, with a budget that has been the subject of much speculation, reportedly making it one of SRK's most expensive films to date.
The Father-Daughter Debut
The most significant casting news is the on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan, who will be making her theatrical debut. After her appearance in the OTT film 'The Archies,' Suhana will step into a full-fledged lead role, portraying the apprentice of SRK's character. This isn't a soft-hearted family drama; instead, they are set to break the norm by teaming up for an intense action film. The pairing has generated immense excitement, with fans eager to see the real-life father-daughter duo translate their chemistry to the world of high-stakes action.
The Powerhouse Team
Initially, Sujoy Ghosh of 'Kahaani' fame was set to direct the film. However, in a significant shift, Siddharth Anand, the director behind SRK's monumental blockbuster 'Pathaan,' has taken over the directorial reins. Anand, who was already on board as a producer alongside Gauri Khan under their banners Marflix Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment, stepped in after the film's scale expanded to better reflect his vision for a massive action spectacle. The film's story is credited to Sujoy Ghosh, with the screenplay penned by Anand, Ghosh, Suresh Nair, and Sagar Pandya. This creative team signals a film that aims to blend a taut narrative with jaw-dropping action sequences.
A Star-Studded Ensemble
Beyond the Khans, 'King' boasts a formidable ensemble cast. Abhishek Bachchan has been roped in to play the primary antagonist, setting the stage for a compelling face-off with SRK. The film also marks a reunion for Shah Rukh with some of his most beloved co-stars, including Deepika Padukone and Rani Mukerji. During a recent fan interaction, SRK expressed his joy at working with his "best friends" again. The extensive cast also includes seasoned actors like Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Jaideep Ahlawat, promising a film rich with powerful performances.
Mark Your Calendars for Christmas
Despite a grueling shoot that involved several injuries for Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar has personally confirmed that the film is on track for its scheduled release. Principal photography began in May 2025, with filming taking place in diverse locations including Mumbai, Warsaw, and Cape Town. 'King' is officially set for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026, coinciding with the Christmas Eve holiday. The film will be released in Hindi along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and English. During a recent 'Ask SRK' session on social media, the actor also shared that singer Arijit Singh is putting the finishing touches on the film's music, adding another layer of anticipation for fans.
