A Path Paved with Gold
Imagine strolling down a path that shimmers with the unmistakable glow of pure gold. That is the experience Dubai plans to offer with its latest ambitious project. Officials from the Dubai Gold District have announced the development of what they are
calling the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-carat gold. This unique attraction is scheduled to open within the next two months, making it a potential highlight for the winter tourist season. The walkway is a key part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai’s standing as a global hub for both gold trading and unparalleled tourist experiences. Rashid Al Harmoudi, Senior Director of the Commercial Sector at the Dubai Gold District, stated that the initiative is designed to give visitors a distinctive experience unlike any other.
The Heart of the City of Gold
The new Gold Walkway will be located in the Dubai Gold District in Deira, the historic heart of the city's trade. This area, launched in January 2026, was specifically created to consolidate all aspects of the gold industry—from bullion trading and wholesale operations to over 1,000 retailers—into a single, cohesive destination. The district already attracts visitors from all over the world, but the addition of a literal golden path aims to create a powerful symbol of the area's identity. While specific details like the walkway's exact length and the total amount of gold being used have not yet been made public, the intent is clear: to create an unforgettable landmark that merges commerce with spectacle.
More Than Just an Attraction
The Gold Walkway is more than just a photo opportunity; it is part of a significant expansion and revitalization of the entire district. Since the beginning of 2026, the Dubai Gold District has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new retail stores specializing in jewellery, precious stones, and luxury watches. To accommodate this growth, expansion work is already underway to create more office and retail space. The walkway is designed to draw more foot traffic and international attention to this booming commercial hub. Furthermore, officials have announced plans for a massive gold and jewellery trade exhibition that aims to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East, further cementing the district's importance on the global stage.
Blending Tradition with Modern Luxury
The project represents Dubai's signature approach of blending deep-rooted tradition with futuristic ambition. The Gold Souk in Deira has long been a must-visit for tourists, offering a vibrant, bustling marketplace experience. The new walkway, as part of the modern Dubai Gold District, respects this heritage while elevating the visitor experience. The area around the souk is rich with other cultural experiences, including traditional abra boat rides across the Dubai Creek and the aromatic Spice Souk nearby. The introduction of this shimmering pathway provides a new focal point, encouraging visitors to explore the area's blend of old-world charm and contemporary luxury. The cooler months, from November to March, are considered the ideal time to explore this historic part of the city on foot.
