Which Vande Bharat Trains Are Affected?
Starting September 2, 2026, Indian Railways has adjusted the departure timings for two key Vande Bharat services originating from Varanasi. The changes are part of operational adjustments by the Northern Railway. Specifically, the affected trains are the Varanasi-Ranchi
Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20888) and the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22500). Passengers booked on these services from Varanasi need to take note of the new, earlier departure times. It is important to note that while the departure time from Varanasi has changed, the timings at all subsequent stations along the routes remain the same.
Understanding the New Departure Timings
The adjustment may seem minor, but it is crucial for a timely departure. The Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express (20888), which previously departed at 4:05 PM, will now leave 10 minutes earlier at 3:55 PM. This train operates six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, and connects major towns like Gaya, Bokaro Steel City, and Muri. Similarly, the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (22500), a popular service for pilgrims, will now depart at 6:10 AM instead of 6:20 AM, also 10 minutes earlier than its previous schedule. Even a small 10-minute shift can mean the difference between catching your train and watching it leave the platform.
Step 1: Double-Check Your PNR and Ticket Details
The first and most important step for any passenger is to re-verify their journey details. Do not assume your old ticket information is still accurate. Log in to the IRCTC website or app and check your booked ticket history. Pay close attention to the departure time mentioned on your updated ticket. You should also receive an SMS or email from Indian Railways informing you of any schedule change for your booked journey. However, it's always best to proactively check yourself.
Step 2: Use Official Channels for Updates
For the most reliable and up-to-the-minute information, always rely on official sources. The National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app and website are indispensable tools for tracking live train status and updated schedules. You can enter your train number to see its current running information and revised timings. The IRCTC Rail Connect app and official railway zone websites are also primary sources for any announcements. Avoid relying on third-party information or outdated timetables that may not reflect recent changes.
Step 3: Adjust Your Pre-Travel Plans
An earlier departure requires adjusting your entire pre-boarding schedule. Plan to leave for the station earlier than you originally intended. Factoring in city traffic, especially during peak hours, is essential. For the Varanasi-Ranchi train departing at 3:55 PM, afternoon traffic can be a significant factor. For the 6:10 AM Deoghar service, you will need to adjust your morning routine. It's wise to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before the new departure time to comfortably clear security and find your coach.
Step 4: Re-evaluate Connecting Journeys
A change in schedule, even a small one, can have a ripple effect on your onward travel. If you have a connecting train or flight, or have arranged for a car pickup at your destination, these plans might need to be reviewed. Although the arrival times for these specific Vande Bharat changes have not been altered, it serves as a crucial reminder for any future timing changes. Always check if a revised schedule impacts your arrival time and communicate any changes to family members or service providers who may be meeting you.
