Laos is famous for its sticky rice, larb (a spicy minced meat salad), and grilled fish, with a full meal often costing under $3. Not only is this the most budget-friendly way to eat, it's also the most authentic and delicious.
Experiences That Are Big on Wow, Small on Cost
The most memorable experiences often cost very little. While the entrance fee for the main Angkor Wat complex is a necessary splurge, you can explore many other remote temples for free or a small donation. Renting a bicycle to cycle through the Angkor complex yourself is a cheap and rewarding alternative to an expensive tour. In Laos, the country's natural beauty is the main attraction. Hike to waterfalls near Luang Prabang, explore the karst landscapes around Vang Vieng, or simply find a spot along the Mekong River to watch the sunset.
