2026. This means several popular express trains will be partially cancelled, diverted, or will originate from different stations. Passengers are strongly advised to double-check their train schedules and station details to avoid any last-minute confusion. Similar engineering-related cancellations and rescheduling have also been announced for other routes in early August due to work in other zones, affecting trains to and from Tamil Nadu.
Key Trains with Revised Operations
The most significant changes impact trains traditionally operating to and from Chennai Egmore. From August 5 to August 19, several services will be 'short-terminated,' meaning they will end their journey before reaching Egmore. For instance, the Thanjavur-Chennai Egmore Express, Mangaluru-Chennai Egmore Express, and Kollam-Chennai Egmore Express will now terminate at Tambaram. The Tiruchirappalli-Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express will terminate at Mambalam during this period. Consequently, their corresponding return services will originate from these alternate stations between August 6 and August 20. This requires passengers booked on these trains to travel to or from Tambaram or Mambalam instead of Chennai Egmore. Some long-distance trains, like the Ahmedabad-Chennai Express, will also be diverted via alternate routes on specific dates, skipping major stops like Chennai Egmore entirely.
