The driving force behind this transformation is a strategic pivot led by the district administration to unlock the region's immense natural potential. Under the guidance of District Collector Dr. N. Prabhakar Reddy, the new blueprint moves beyond passive
tourism, aiming to attract a younger, more active demographic. The vision is not just to showcase scenic spots but to create immersive experiences that generate revenue and, crucially, provide sustainable livelihoods for local communities. This approach has already gained national recognition, with a focus on branding the district as a unique destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers, distinct from other tourist circuits in Andhra Pradesh. The plan leverages the district's rugged terrain, turning its challenges into its greatest assets.
The Land of Waterfalls Beckons
At the heart of this new strategy is an ambitious plan to brand Manyam as the “Home of Waterfalls.” The administration has identified and begun developing around ten key waterfalls, including Lodda, Tadikonda, and Neelam Valasa, with improved infrastructure and safety measures. The results have been immediate and dramatic, with officials reporting an influx of three lakh visitors in just three months, drawn by the cascading waters. The upgrades go beyond simple viewing platforms. At sites like Moganali Waterfall, facilities for natural rock climbing and designated swimming zones are being introduced. At others, rope-assisted climbing and other adventure sports are in the pipeline, turning these natural wonders into active recreational zones.
Hitting the Trails by Foot and Bike
The adventure push extends deep into the district's forests and hills. Twelve trekking routes have been mapped out, with six being developed in the first phase to guide tourists through picturesque forests and to hilltop vistas. To support this, local tribal youth are being professionally trained as trekking guides, equipped with first-aid skills and safety knowledge. In a fresh initiative announced in mid-2026, the district is also introducing 'bike tourism'. This plan involves creating designated 30-kilometre motorcycle routes that connect key waterfalls, viewpoints, and forest areas. The concept builds on a successful pilot program of tribal bike taxis, where local riders ferry tourists to remote waterfalls that are difficult to access by car, adding another layer of adventure and local employment.
Community-Led Growth and Empowerment
A defining feature of Manyam's tourism overhaul is its emphasis on community participation, particularly through the 'Adi Karma Yogi' initiative. This model empowers local Adivasi communities to take the lead in developing their areas. Instead of waiting for government funds, residents have been building pathways, bamboo bridges, and other small-scale infrastructure using their own ingenuity and traditional knowledge. This grassroots involvement ensures that the development is sustainable and culturally sensitive. It also creates a direct economic link, as local families set up small shops and food stalls. By training and employing tribal youth as guides, bike taxi operators, and hospitality providers, the administration is ensuring that the economic benefits of tourism flow directly into the communities that call the region home.
Building the Foundation for Adventure
Supporting this ambitious vision is a concerted effort to build the necessary infrastructure. Beyond the trails and waterfalls, existing attractions like the NTR Adventure Park at Seethampet, which offers hot-air ballooning, are being complemented by new facilities like the adventure and culture park at Savara Kota Padu. Recognizing that accessibility is key, officials are improving road connectivity to remote areas and planning for amenities like tourist accommodation, rest shelters, and camping facilities. Technology is also playing a role, with plans for QR codes at major sites to provide visitors with instant information and a dedicated website for booking accommodation and activities in advance. These foundational steps are crucial for transforming Manyam from a place of raw potential into a polished, accessible adventure destination.
