The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities
While offline AI offers a clear privacy advantage, it's not without its limitations. Running powerful models requires significant computing resources, particularly RAM and a capable processor, which may be a barrier for users with older or less powerful devices. The setup process can also be more technical than simply logging into a website. Furthermore, the most powerful, cutting-edge AI models often debut in the cloud before smaller, offline-capable versions become available. However, as hardware improves and models become more efficient, local AI is poised to become more accessible.
