For these travellers, the convenience factor is a clear and overwhelming victory.
A Strong Contender for East Delhi and Ghaziabad
If you live in East Delhi or Ghaziabad, the decision is now more interesting. While IGI might be geographically closer on a map, the drive to Jewar presents a compelling alternative. For instance, the travel time from areas like Indirapuram to NIA is estimated to be around 50 minutes, which can be competitive with the 65-minute journey to IGI, especially during peak hours. The primary advantage for these residents is the ability to bypass the choke points of Central Delhi traffic. While IGI remains a perfectly viable option, NIA offers a strategic choice, potentially providing a smoother and more predictable journey, particularly for domestic flights.
The IGI Stronghold: Gurgaon, West and South Delhi
For residents of Gurgaon, South Delhi, and West Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport will almost certainly remain the go-to hub. The geographical advantage is simply too significant to ignore. A drive from Gurgaon to IGI can take as little as 25 minutes, whereas the same journey to Noida's Jewar airport would stretch to 90 minutes or more. Similarly, travellers from South and West Delhi are firmly within IGI's catchment area. With established and robust connectivity, including the Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line, IGI offers an ecosystem of convenience that NIA, in its current road-dependent phase, cannot yet match for these parts of the NCR.
The Calculated Choice for Central Delhi and Faridabad
Travellers from Central Delhi and Faridabad fall into a middle ground where the choice requires a bit more calculation. IGI is closer in terms of kilometres, with Connaught Place being just 16 km from IGI versus 75 km from NIA. However, the journey to IGI often involves navigating some of the city's most congested roads. For these residents, the decision may hinge on the time of day, the specific destination, and flight pricing. While IGI is the established and closer option, a good deal on a flight from NIA combined with off-peak travel could make the longer drive to Jewar worthwhile for budget-conscious travellers.
